Flyers Winter Classic Uniforms: Rumored Look Makes NHL Eyesore on New Year's Day

Someone call the fashion police. The Philadelphia Flyers are about to offend the NHL's already-horrendous jersey sensibilities.

The Philadelphia Flyers better hope the clock doesn't (or, perhaps, does) strike midnight. Otherwise, they'll be skating around at Citizens Bank Park at the 2012 NHL Winter Classic against the New York Rangers looking like a bunch of pumpkins on skates.

According to Philadelphia Sports Daily, the Flyers may (or may not) be sporting bright orange throwback uniforms when they take to the ice the day after New Year's Day at the 2012 NHL Winter Classic against the New York Rangers. The designs first showed up on message boards back in September, originated from DC Visual Arts, and have yet to be confirmed or promoted in any way by the team.

The official jerseys will be designed and produced by Reebok, so it's entirely possible that the look leaked onto the web is a fraud.

In any case, the Flyers would look patently ridiculous in these bright orange bombs, like lost Halloween pumpkins on skates. Perhaps they could throw Jaromir Jagr's big mug on them in relief to hang on to the spirit of the holiday.

A trick perhaps, but certainly no treat for any hockey fan with working retinas.

Not that the Rangers' look is any better. Brad Richards and company could end up looking like festively striped creamsicles. If Jack Skellington were a hockey player, he might be confused about which team to choose—the trick-or-treaters or the frozen treats.

Now, hideous uniforms are hardly a new phenomenon for the NHL, and while these designs aren't quite worthy of consideration among the worst of all time, they certainly wouldn't do the sport of hockey any favors in the (sore) eyes of fans, casual and devoted alike.
