EPL International Week: No News Is the Worst News

Ashish WesleyFeb 8, 2008

Well what can I say—it's International Week, and I can have a bit of a moan about having woefully little to report back today. But I'm going to side step that land mine with some deft footwork ala Alex Hleb.

Right-o! According to this here, Jens Lehmann made another howler, playing for Germany in the friendlies against Austria last night. Thankfully for Jens, the mistake didn't cost them a goal and this article says that he did pull off some good saves after this to shut out the Austrians. I haven't seen the howler so will put it down to just one of those things that happen every now and again.

There's good news on the injury front, specifically our terrier in midfield Mathieu Flamini who was taken off 15 minutes into his game for France reserves. It looks like he could be back in action as soon as the Blackburn game on Monday.

"It is just a little tight spot behind the right thigh," the Flamster said. "It is nothing serious, I hope I'll be ready for Blackburn."

It will be nice to have him back, as well as RVP, Toure, Eboue, Song and Rosicky! Man, do we have lots of players missing! Speaking of players missing, Toure and Eboue have been knocked out of the ACN, while Song put in a bit of a blinder to take Cameroon to the final as gunnerblog clearly explains!

I haven't spent too much time thinking about the "foreign round" in the Premiership, but i didn't have to, I'm dead against it. More on this later. We are the only team of the Premiership "top 4" who have not gone on its off-season tour abroad.

"I don't like the pre-season tours," said Wenger. "But I must say we have a lot of proposals. I hope I can resist as long as I want because it is a lot of money that is offered. But I have the final say."

It is looking increasingly possible that Gilberto may not be in the famous red and white next season, this article talks about a swap deal with Juve for Raffaele Palladino, who can play wing or forward. It will be sad to see Gilberto leave; he had quite a season last year for us, leading the team no less. Now to see him all lost at sea does tug at the heart strings a bit.

Will round off today's post with this by Cristiano Ronaldo talking about himself being the best in the world? If there's one thing about the Manky Shite, they are a modest bunch aren't they?
