Sam Bradford Injury: Updates on St. Louis Rams QB's Week 7 Status, Fantasy Value

Tim DanielsOct 17, 2011

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford was injured late in the team's loss against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys are St. Louis' opponent in Week 7, and Bradford's status for that game is up in the air depending on how his ankle responds during the week.

Keep checking back to this page throughout the week for updates on his availability and fantasy value, which could be on the rise after the arrival of Brandon Lloyd from the Denver Broncos.

Sam Bradford was expected to test his injured ankle today in practice, but that is no longer a safe bet. Expect him to be a game-time decision Sunday at Dallas. A.J. Feely would start in his place, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas.

"

"Spagnuolo wasn't sure if Bradford would attempt to practice today, the final full practice day of the week in preparation for Sunday's 3:15 p.m. kickoff against Dallas.

'We'll see,' Spagnuolo said. 'I mean he (wouldn't) come right out on the field. First, they're going to try and see if he can drop back.'

Obviously, if Bradford is unable to perform the basic footwork needed to drop back and pass, there's no way he's practicing.

'The one thing that Sam has shown us is that he's a tough kid, he's a competitor,' running back Steven Jackson said. 'If he's able to play, I believe he's going to be out there. If not, A.J. has taken the snaps these first two days of practice. He knows the offense. He knows the game plan.'"

While Bradford seemed to be on track to start against the Dallas Cowboys Week 7, new information has come out saying that backup A.J. Feeley may receive the starting nod. Bradford didn't practice on Wednesday with his high ankle sprain and continued to wear a protective boot, according to Mark J. Miller of Yahoo! Sports

"

"We wanted to keep his leg elevated," coach Steve Spagnuolo said, the Post-Dispatch reports. "I don't know what to think. I don't venture to take any guesses on high ankle sprains.".

Despite Sam Bradford's high ankle sprain, it appears as though he will be starting under center for the Rams when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. According to Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Bradford will be healthy enough to play.

"

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Bradford is expected to start against the Cowboys despite suffering a high ankle sprain in St. Louis’ loss to the Packers. While similar injuries often knock players out for a few weeks, Bradford was able to finish the game against Green Bay.

"

While this is good news for the Rams, you should probably pump the brakes when it comes to starting him in fantasy this week. Not only has he struggled all season, but Bradford will almost certainly be compromised by the ankle injury and he'll have to become acclimated with new wide receiver Brandon Lloyd. All of those are reasons why Bradford should be on your bench this week, even if he isn't on St. Louis'.

Sam Bradford's availability for Sunday's clash with the Dallas Cowboys remains uncertain after he was seen wearing a protective boot to mask his high-ankle sprain. The Rams overall are concerned, according to NFL.com's Staff.

"

"Bradford has a high left ankle sprain and is in a walking boot, leaving his status for this weekend's game at Dallas in question.

'I think you are always concerned when you see your quarterback in a boot,' Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said. 'In my experience with the high ankle sprains, you just never know,'" according to NFL.com.

Howard Balzer, the Managing Editor of 101Sports.com as well as a talk radio host in St. Louis, tweets some bad news about Bradford. However, he doesn't update his playing status for Sunday.

High ankle sprains usually cause major problems, but the Rams only consider their franchise quarterback day-to-day, which could be a sign the injury isn't serious. We'll update the situation when more information becomes available.
