Eddie Royal Trade Rumors: Latest NFL Trade Deadline News and Analysis on WR

Eric BallOct 17, 2011

No team has been involved in more trade rumors over the past few days than the Denver Broncos.

Top wide receiver Brandon Lloyd has already been traded to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for a sixth-round pick that can turn into a fifth-round pick if Lloyd catches 30 passes.

Next up is fellow wide receiver Eddie Royal.

Along with Lloyd, Royal has gone to Broncos management and requested a trade. He has four catches for 51 yards this season but has been hampered by injuries throughout the 2011 season.

Update: Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:21 p.m. EST

The trade deadline passed and fortunately for Tim Tebow, slot receiver Eddie Royal is still on the team. He is expected to play Sunday at Miami and should produce well.

Teams rumored to be interested include the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers.

Update: Monday, Oct. 17 3:30 p.m. EST

Judging from the latest reports, it sounds like Royal will be stuck with the Broncos for the duration of the season according to the huddle.com:

"The Broncos are likely offering Royal as a consolation prize for teams calling about Brandon Lloyd. Tough to move damaged goods, and maybe Royal moves into a more prominent role if Denver does ship Lloyd elsewhere."

With Demaryius Thomas returning from an ACL injury to make his season debut in the coming weeks, the Broncos could afford to get rid of one of their receivers.

Yet with Lloyd already traded, the urge to get rid of Royal isn’t there. On top of that, the Denver Post is reporting there isn’t a ton of interest in Royal at this point:

"Although sources say Royal has also requested a trade, it may be difficult for the Broncos to accommodate him. The receiver-returner has not generated much interest in the trade market, most likely because he has yet to play in a game since a groin injury in Week 2."

With the 4 p.m. EST trade deadline on Tuesday quickly approaching, it sounds like Royal will remain with the Broncos for the duration of the season.
