Tashard Choice Trade Rumors: Latest NFL Deadline News and Analysis on Cowboys RB

Richard LangfordOct 17, 2011

Tashard Choice is a talented back that is third string on a Cowboys team that needs to shake things up. This means he is an excellent candidate for a trade.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk touched on this prior to the Cowboys recent loss to the Patriots. "One guy who may be available is Cowboys running back Tashard Choice," said Florio. "Choice, currently the No. 2 tailback behind Felix Jones, has only 21 carries for 53 yards in four 2011 games. He’s in the final year of his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent in 2012."

We will have all the latest news, updates and information about Choice as it becomes available before Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. EDT NFL Trade Deadline.

UPDATE: Tuesday, October 18th at 4:18 p.m. EST by Brandon Galvin

One has to wonder if Felix Jones didn't get hurt where Tashard Choice would be right now.

"

"Two NFL teams have contacted the Cowboys about a potential trade for running back Tashard Choice, but that's not likely going to happen now considering starting running back Felix Jones is out two to four weeks with a left high ankle sprain, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday morning on his radio show on 105.3 FM.

'The facts are we have been asked about Tashard Choice by two different teams,' Jerry Jones said on 105.3 FM. 'Anytime anybody calls you, you certainly give it some thought, but with the injury to Felix and where he is with his sprained ankle, that's doubtful that anything will happen there,'" according to Dallas Morning News' Brandon George.

UPDATE: Tuesday, October 18th at 11:15 a.m. EST - Wes O'Donnell

As expected following the severity of Felix Jones' injury, the Cowboys are reportedly taking Choice off the block.

According to @NFLDraftUpdate, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones considers a move doubtful:

This is the smartest move (or no move, whichever you prefer) the Cowboys could have made. Leaning primarily on rookie DeMarco Murray would have been a mistake and Choice didn't have too much value either.

UPDATE: Monday, October 17th at 3:50 pm EST

Tashard Choices availability took an apparent hit when the Cowboys leading rusher, Felix Jones, was banged up in Sunday's loss. This led Sports Illustrated's Peter King to agree with the sentiment that Jones would not be going anywhere.

However, Jerry Jones is apparently still willing to unload Choice.

Here is the direct quote from the previously referenced Yahoo! article:

"The word is that Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones told NBC that he's gotten some phone calls about Choice and he's considering making a deal that would send Choice packing."
