NFL Trade Rumors: Why the Oakland Raiders Need Carson Palmer

Nicholas MoffittOct 17, 2011

Carson Palmer, according to Yahoo! Sports, is in the works to be traded to the Oakland Raiders after starting quarterback Jason Campbell suffered a broken collarbone against the Cleveland Browns, leaving the Raiders scrambling for a viable quarterback to fill in the rest of the season.

The Raiders sit tied with San Diego in the division with four wins a piece and have a chance at winning the division if they can find a quarterback to help them continue.

Palmer has had issues with Bengals owner and other management and refused to play this year after they denied his trade request.

The Raiders need Carson Palmer to continue on the path to the playoffs.

1. He Is Better Than Kyle Boller or Terrelle Pryor

1 of 4

Carson Palmer is just flat out better than either Kyle Boller of Terrelle Pryor. Although Pryor is unproven in the NFL, it wouldn't be a good time to start him but rather to let him develop for a few years, and Palmer can provide the help Pryor needs to develop as well as give the Raiders wins.

Palmer has a career completion percentage of 62.9 vs Boller's of 56.7, and Palmer has almost double the attempts of Boller, proving that he is a more accurate quarterback to lead the Raiders.

Palmer was a very successful college quarterback and won the Heisman trophy while making the successful transition to the NFL and can be very helpful in developing what could potentially be the Raider future in Terelle Pryor.

Palmer is just flat out better than any of the other options.

2. Palmer Can Compliment Darren McFadden Well

If Carson Palmer came in he would be great because he would know how to compliment Darren McFadden. Yes any quarterback can hand off the ball but with the accuracy of Carson Palmer, the play action passing game would be at the height of efficiency with Palmer leading.

After pounding away with McFadden the Raiders can throw deep to Heyward-Bey or Moore. Palmer would be a great compliment to DMC.

3. Palmer Can Minimize Turnovers

3 of 4

With a career touchdown to interception ratio of 1.5, Carson Palmer gives the ball up around the same amount of times as Jason Campbell, this would allow the Raiders to keep their current amount of production.

The decision making of backup Kyle Boller hasn't been as stellar over his career, Boller has a TD-INT ratio of less than one, which would translate into less chances for the Raiders to score and the defense that is in the bottom half of opponent rushing yards and passing yards.

Palmer would help the Raiders offense keep chugging away.

4. Carson Palmer Gives Them a Chance at the Playoffs

Sitting at 4-2, and with their schedule still containing two games against Kansas City, Minnesota, Miami and Denver. The Raiders should win all of those games and the rest of them are tossups which they should come away with one or two victories possibly.

Ten wins would be enough to put them in a position to make a run on the emotions they ride with the death of long time owner Al Davis. Palmer could ignite the team to play for Davis and keep them in contention for the playoffs.

If the Raiders want to win, they'll get Palmer.
