Week 7 Waiver Wire: Daniel Thomas and More Players You Should Avoid

T.J. McaloonOct 17, 2011

There are people that have a big game, or players that make the starting lineup, that you as a fantasy football owner should avoid at all costs. They are players who will hurt your team more than they will help your team.

They will just clog up your roster, keeping you from adding such players as Earnest Graham, Victor Cruz and Colt McCoy.

So, if we could right now, we’d be blaring warning sires, because you’re about to see some fantasy players that if you happen to see on your fantasy waiver wire, or hopefully not on your team, you should avoid at all costs and move as far away from them as possible.

Daniel Thomas: Running Back, Miami Dolphins

Thomas is owned in 71percent of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues. He’s played in a handful of games for a winless Miami Dolphins team that keeps on getting worse and worse every week.

He’s been plagued by a hamstring injury that may slow him down the rest of the season, while only having one productive game and actually only scoring fantasy points in one game this year.

Unless you are really hurting for a running back, because of injuries or a bye week, then Thomas is an option. But, aside from that instance, avoid Thomas at all costs.

Ben Tate: Running Back, Houston Texans

Tate has had great games this year. When he’s had the chance to get the majority of the touches in the Texans offense he’s responded with games of 15, 13 and eight points. However, in recent games, since starting running back Arian Foster came back, Tate has seen his production dwindle to only two, zero and four points the last three weeks.

To go with this lack of production and time in games, Tate is dealing with a groin and Achilles injury.

Tate is only owned by 46 percent of fantasy players in Yahoo! leagues.

Alex Smith: Quarterback, San Francisco 49ers

Alex Smith is a good quarterback this year. He’s winning ball games for his 49ers football squad and he’s doing it by limiting his mistakes. However, he is still a quarterback that you should not own.

Smith for the year has been on a wave of success and failure. In the first two weeks he had point totals of 12 and 18, which was good. Then followed it up with a six-point performance, which was bad. But he went back up with point totals of 19 and 23, which is great. But, then he had a seven-point performance last week, which was bad.

So unless you can guess right, then you should stay far away from the former No. 1 draft pick.

Alex Smith is only owned in 27 percent of leagues on Yahoo! sports.

Three players that you should only pick up if you are in dire straights. Even if you have to pick up a player, try to swing a trade first before having to use these guys as your last resort.
