NFL Power Rankings Week 7: Dallas Cowboys and 3 Teams in Freefall

John RozumOct 17, 2011

For the following three teams in the free fall, not all is lost just yet. But to say the least, it's not looking very good.

However, as of where they stand now in terms of their own division and conference, it will be interesting to see who steps up and responds to the adversity.

What's even more intriguing is that two of the teams are in the same division. Check it out.

Dallas Cowboys (2-3)

All five of the Cowboys' games this season have been decided by four points or less, and it's no surprise that Big D has come up on the short end of them three times.

And until Dallas can figure out how to win, they're going to be in a free fall. The comeback W on the road in San Fran was their peak, as the home win over Washington doesn't look so impressive now.

With five divisional games left, hope is still alive, but Dallas is on super thin ice because the NFC East is only sending one team to the playoffs.

Washington Redskins (3-2)

Right now the road loss at Dallas is what's killing the Redskins, because being 4-1 as opposed to 3-2 this early is a big difference.

Now include their dismal offensive performance (much obliged Rex Grossman), and Washington is falling about as fast as Dallas.

The win over the Giants was big, but it doesn't help much that New York is 4-1 since and the 'Skins are 2-2.

The defense is playing great. However, unless the offense improves it's going to be a disappointing end to such a solid start.

Houston Texans (3-3)

At the moment Houston is being mauled by injuries.

Once WR Andre Johnson gets back the offense should return to normal, but without LB Mario Williams the defense is going to suffer.

That being said, of these three teams Houston has the best shot at getting back on track. The question is whether they can.

This is a team with a load of talent on both sides of the ball. However, none of the Texans have been in a position where they're literally expected to win.

Houston may bounce back as the season progresses, but don't be surprised if they miss out on the postseason once again.
