Virginia Tech's "Wake"-Up Call to the Rest of the ACC
I was driving home Saturday night from Knoxville (I was at a wedding, not the atrocious LSU-UT game) scanning channel after channel praying to God for a miracle.
Suddenly I found it!! A giant light beamed from heaven to my radio and I could hear it. Sure enough it was the VT-Wake Forest football game (and I was still 50 miles from the Virginia state line).
However, as soon as I turned it on I wanted to turn it off. Tanner Price dropped a bomb pass down the middle to Chris Givens and the Hokies were down 10-0.
As I continued to listen the same thoughts popped into my head that were probably in most of yours at that time: "What's going on?" "Was Miami that much of a fluke or did Logan Thomas just have a lucky game?"
However not too much longer after the questions began to arise, an answer came from the Tech offense.
Drive after drive after drive the Hokies marched right down the field and next thing you know the ball game was over! Final score: VT 38 Wake Forest 17.
However, looking back at that game we can observe several things.
First, this is not your Week 5 Hokies team. These boys have found swagger and momentum and the Tigers better be watching their tails cause the Hokies are coming for a rematch in the ACC title. There is a new-found desire in the eyes of this team that wants that title and you can see it.
Second, Foster's Defense is back. We knew this coming into the season, but not like we do now. During the Wake Forest game we saw a cut-and-paste defense in white. However they looked like they had played together all season. VT will desperately need to get some players recovered but thankfully they have BC and Duke next on their schedule before that big November matchup in Atlanta.
Third and finally, we see a grown up Logan Thomas. Questions arose after the Miami game as to whether Thomas was that good or Miami's secondary that bad. Thomas has begun to answer his critics himself.
Now given, Miami and Wake are no Clemson, but it isn't the defenses that look that different. It's the man lined up behind the center. He is going to continue to be a threat to every team VT plays in the ACC this season.
If this team continue's to play this way. We should easily see a Clemson-VT matchup come December 3rd.
