Week 7 Waiver Wire: Terrell Owens and 5 Potential Payoff Picks

Alex KayOct 17, 2011

Are your fantasy football league’s waiver-wire choices getting very sparse?

I know mine are.

If you are desperate and have some room on your bench, there are a few potential deep sleepers who you may have just heard of before.

These guys are in retirement or free agents right now, but as injuries are starting to mount toward the midpoint of the NFL season, they are very likely to start garnering interest soon.

If any of these players find a team in the next few weeks, you are going to look like an absolute guru for picking them up in Week 7.

Carson Palmer

1 of 5

The NFL trade deadline is tomorrow and there is a slim chance that Palmer might be headed to the Oakland Raiders.

Jason Campbell owners need to drop Campbell from their roster as he is going to be out for the year with a broken collarbone.

If you are one of the unfortunate few that were going to war with Campbell, why not get yourself a replacement QB from waivers and also take a chance on Palmer or this next guy…

David Garrard

2 of 5

Garrard is the other highly viable candidate to possibly find himself in a Raiders uniform this week because of the unfortunate Jason Campbell injury.

He was cut just before the regular season started by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and has the mobility and playoff experience the Raiders are looking for to make a postseason push this season.

I don’t see them sticking with Kyle Boller because they do have a legitimate shot of winning their division and getting back to the playoffs with a better veteran QB.

Terrell Owens

3 of 5

Last week, Terrell Owens was asked by Stephen A. Smith about his timeline to return to the NFL this season.

Owens responded by saying, “A month or less, I give you that.”

He isn’t going away anytime soon, and a team desperate for a receiver on the cusp of a playoff berth could legitimately give T.O. a shot.

“I'm not gonna waste your time, so I wouldn't expect you to waste my time. When I step on the field, you know what you gonna get.”

That was Owens’ message to NFL owners. Sounds quite promising.

Randy Moss

4 of 5

A team would inquire about Moss for many of the same reasons as a squad would be interested in T.O.

Moss is one of the most dynamic receivers in NFL history and, despite having a down year last season, could potentially still contribute to a playoff team.

Randy has been cited by QB greats such as Tom Brady as their favorite receiver, and some of the things he can do on a football field have not been seen since his retirement.

This is a deep sleeper pick but if there are rumblings he might return, you never know just how great he could be.

Brett Favre

5 of 5

Brett Favre back in the NFL at age 42?

People have thought he was crazy since he was waffling on retirement at age 39.

Favre took the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game and the cusp of a Super Bowl at 40 years old, so you never know if he would be interested in jumping aboard a team that loses their starter for a few games and making one last Super Bowl push.

He has been in the broadcast booth and enjoying retirement, but as we have learned with Favre, nothing is impossible.
