Peyton Hillis Trade Rumors: Latest Trade Deadline News and Analysis on Browns RB

Adam WellsOct 17, 2011

If you would have told Cleveland Browns fans before the season that Peyton Hillis would be averaging 3.5 yards per carry and could be put on the trading block, most of them would have told you that you were insane.

It is hard to believe how fast the bloom has come off Hillis' rose, but just two months after gracing the cover of Madden '12 he could be on his way out of Cleveland thanks to stalled contract talks and poor performance on the field.

We will have all the latest news, updates and information about Hillis as it becomes available before Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. EDT NFL Trade Deadline.

The trade deadline has passed and Peyton Hillis is still a Brown, according to News-Herald's Browns beat writer Jeff Schudel.

Update: Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 2:09 p.m. EDT

Jay Glazer has a contradicting account from the earlier Chris Mortensen update.

Glazer is reporting that the Browns are shutting teams down that are inquiring about Peyton Hillis and he will not be moved this season.

Stay tuned here for the latest news over approximately the next two hours before the deadline passes on the latest trade news concerning the Browns star RB.

Update: Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 12:38 p.m. EDT

ESPN's Chris Mortensen told viewers on the air that the Browns aren't completely opposed to moving Hillis despite their public statements.

“There’s a sense they could be persuaded. We’ll see,” Mortensen said.

After the Carson Palmer blockbuster deal wen't down, we will see if there will be another surprise marquee name being traded in the next few hours.

Hillis currently is dealing with an injured hamstring which may scare off potential suitors.

Check back here frequently for the latest update before the deadline.

UPDATE: Monday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. EDT

While there does appear to be a disconnect between Peyton Hillis and the Browns organization right now, head coach Pat Shurmur has no desire to move his running back.

It would not make a lot of sense for the Browns to try and move Hillis right now because he is not healthy and his value will never be lower than it is right now. That is too bad since he will be a free agent after this season.

Monday, Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m. EDT

ESPN's John Clayton tweeted yesterday that something fishy is going in Cleveland regarding the status of its star running back.

This may or may not be a sign that the team is looking to move Hillis right now, but it does make you think that there is something going on in the contract negotiations between the two sides.

Hillis obviously wants a new deal, but, based on his performance so far this year, it appears the team had some reservations about giving him a long-term deal after just one good season.
