Carson Palmer: Bengals Owner Is Hurting Team's Future by Not Trading QB

Alex KayOct 17, 2011

Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown is making his football team worse if he refuses move Carson Palmer before the trading deadline tomorrow.

The Raiders are a willing and interesting trade partner for the right price and if the Bengals can get any value out of Palmer at this point, they should be willing to make a deal.

Of course their stubborn owner refuses to see this and would rather let Palmer rot in retirement rather than swallow his pride and trade him.

Is it Palmer’s fault that the team did not properly build around him? Of course not.

Is it Palmer’s fault that the organization is so poorly run that he never wanted to put the Bengals’ uniform on again in his life? Nope.

I don’t understand why Brown won’t admit his mistakes and work on rebuilding the current team, which has a ton of promising young talent and a great new rookie signal caller in Andy Dalton.

I do understand that the Raiders may not be the best trade partner with their lack of second-, third- and fourth-round draft picks this coming season, but Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, who broke the story, has a great solution.

He said,

"

"In this situation, the Raiders would do well to offer Cincinnati a third-round pick in 2013 that could increase in value to a second- or even first-round pick if Palmer performed well either this year or in 2012."

"

That is a win-win situation for both parties and one that could help the Raiders in the near future and the Bengals in the long run.

If Brown doesn’t make a deal involving Palmer, he is potentially missing out on a franchise player in two years. While obviously we don’t know if the Raiders have offered a deal along those lines, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe they have.

Hopefully Brown realizes the error of his ways and rectifies it before tomorrow morning.
