NFL Trade Rumors: 4 Reasons Carson Palmer to Oakland Raiders Makes Sense

Ryan AlfieriOct 17, 2011

With such a gaping hole at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, there has been a lot of discussion about the Raiders going after former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports.

There are a lot of things that need to happen in order for this deal to actually go down, like Palmer taking a pay cut to keep the Raiders' cap number down, and Bengals owner Mike Brown actually using common sense and getting some value for his disgruntled quarterback.

However, if this deal does get done, there can be a lot of benefits for all parties involved.

Let's take a look at who makes out at the end of this deal.

Mike Brown Gets Some Value

1 of 4

Mike Brown is the most stubborn man in football.

Rather than accept that his quarterback does not want to play for a franchise that operates in the dark ages and take whatever he can get for him, he would rather see Carson Palmer sit on his couch all season.

If Mike Brown finally turns around, he can get a somewhat high draft selection for Palmer's services.

Not to mention, he does not have to hear any more about the subject, and his team can move forward with Andy Dalton.

Raiders Upgrade at Position

Even if Jason Campbell was never injured, Palmer to the Raiders would make a lot of sense for Oakland.

Although Palmer has not quite been the same guy over the past few seasons, perhaps just a change of scenery and the support of an offensive-minded head coach would do him a lot of good.

With a good running game and a willingness to push the ball downfield, the Raiders could get a lot of good play out of Palmer.

An upgrade at quarterback could be just what they need to get into the playoffs.

Carson Palmer Gets to Play Football

Carson Palmer obviously still wants to play—just not for the Bengals.

He has apparently been in contact with Bengals owner Mike Brown, so there is clearly a willingness to get back onto the field.

Carson has stated that he does not want to play for money, but for love of the game.

Going to a resurgent team like the Raiders could be just what Carson needs to rekindle that love.

The Raiders Can Stop Looking for a Quarterback

4 of 4

The Raiders have not had a quarterback that gave them a legitimate chance to win a Super Bowl since Rich Gannon.

Jason Campbell is adequate, but adequacy does not get you Super Bowl rings. Campbell is a guy that you are always going to try to replace.

If Palmer winds up in Oakland, the Raiders can finally put the position on the back burner and focus on building up the rest of their team.
