Jim Harbaugh Fight Video: Was 49ers Coach Trying to Show Up Lions' Jim Schwartz?

There was plenty of drama between the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions on Sunday, but the most explosive fireworks actually came after game.

After the upstart 49ers defeated the upstart Lions, 25-19, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh could be seen jumping up and down on the field and actually pulling his shirt up and chest-bumping offensive tackle Alex Boone.

None of that appeared to bother Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. What really irked him was when Harbaugh went in for the handshake then slapped him on the back as he ran away in exuberance.

According to Schwartz, via USA Today, Harbaugh "shoved" him out of the way. According to Harbaugh, he "shook his hand too hard."

Said Harbaugh, "Yeah, yeah, I was just really revved up. It's totally on me—I shook his hand too hard. I really went in, and it was a strong, kind of a slap-grab handshake. Kind of like the same as I've been doing with a few of the other (49ers) guys. That was on me. Little too hard of a handshake there."

A slap-grab handshake, huh? The horror.

It's worth noting that Schwartz got his start under New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick when he was with the Cleveland Browns. As we all know, Belichick only celebrates when he wins a Super Bowl. For traditional coaches like Belichick and Schwartz, any sign of celebration from the opponent is basically showing them up.

Was Harbaugh a little too emphatic? Maybe so.

Was Schwartz a little too sensitive? Probably.

Harbaugh may have gone a little overboard, but the scrum at the end of Sunday's game wasn't a byproduct of Harbaugh trying to show Schwartz up. Harbaugh was simply a rookie head coach who had just come away with the biggest victory of his NFL coaching career and celebrated accordingly.

One thing's for sure: handshakes will never be looked at the same way again.
