Week 14 NFL Picks With Sayre Bedinger and Tanner Thoms

Sayre BedingerDec 5, 2008

For a new twist, me and my good friend Tanner Thoms decided to collaborate on our week 14 NFL picks.  Here's how it all went down.

Sayre:  I definitely like the Bears in this one.  I think Matt Forte could have a multiple touchdown game.  The Jaguars are one of the bigger disappointments in the NFL this year, and the Bears desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Bears  24, Jaguars  13

Tanner:  The Bears' running game is amongst the elite in the league, and the Jags don't have a good enough defense to stop this much improved offense.  I like the Bears also in this one.

Bears  27, Jaguars  14

Sayre:  Could the Lions be any worse of a team?  Are the Vikings for real?  What is going to happen to the Williams Wall?  Regardless, I think that A.P. is a stud, and the Vikes are too good of a defensive team to be beaten in this one.  Sorry Daunte, no revenge for you.

Vikings  31, Lions 20

Tanner:  Despite the troubles with the Williams duo, I see the Vikings overpowering Detroit.  The Lions are a horrible squad, and even though it was close early in the season, Adrian will run all over this defense.

Vikings  38, Lions  17

Tanner:  The Colts are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, despite this being an off year for them.  The Bengals are terrible, and the Colts will be able to exploit a weak pass defense early.

Colts  33, Bengals  13

Sayre:  I agree with you Tanner, I think Manning could have a breakout game.  Unfortunately for the Bengals, the Colts are also playing very tough defense, and the Addai-Rhodes combo on the ground is starting to take form.  I think the Colts put this one away early.

Colts  27,  Bengals 16

Sayre:  The Giants are currently the best team in the league in my opinion.  Eli Manning is playing like an All-Pro, and the defense is as tough as it has ever been.  The G-Men are also undefeated in their division this season, but Eagles RB Brian Westbrook is playing out of his mind.  I like the Giants to win a close defensive battle.

Giants  23,  Eagles  20

Tanner:  Despite the Eagles' big Thanksgiving victory, I don't see them continuing on that pace.  The Giants are loaded at every position, and the Eagles might keep it close early, but I like the Giants as well.

Giants  27, Eagles  16

Tanner:  The Browns have been reduced to the likes of Ken Dorsey at QB with the injuries to Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson.  The Titans are playing at home, and are too good to be beaten by a lowly Browns team.  I think the Titans will win fairly easily.

Titans  34, Browns  20

Sayre:  Man, have the Browns been a major bust this season.  They just don't seem to have any really passionate players, and it has showed in their record.  The Titans will overpower them with their ability to run and play defense at a very high level.

Titans  41,  Browns  9

Sayre:  This is a very good matchup.  The Falcons are playing inspired football, and are full of young stars.  The Saints have a legitimate MVP candidate in Drew Brees, and usually play well at home.  I think the Falcons are able to control the clock a bit better than New Orleans, and they should win a close one.

Falcons  24,  Saints  23

Tanner:  Atlanta has been the most surprising team in the league this year to me.  I see New Orleans getting back on track this week against an inexperienced squad.  Drew Brees will unload on this young defense, and the Saints will prevail at home.

Saints  27, Falcons  24

Tanner:  Green Bay is now 5-7 and needs to win a game desperately if they want to get in to the playoffs.  Houston, despite a big Monday Night victory, won't be able to get the best of this hungry Packers squad.

Packers  23, Texans  17

Sayre:  I think Houston may finally be that team I know they can be.  Mario Williams is on top of his game, Schaub is healthy, and the Texans' offense is really coming on.  I think the Texans will stun the Lambeau faithful.

Texans  30, Packers  20

Sayre:  I'm not really sure what to think of either of these teams.  Both have very impressive wins, and some not so impressive losses.  I think the Dolphins are a bit better defensively, and Bills QB Trent Edwards has been prone to mistakes.  Still, I fell the Bills will win this game at home.

Bills  20,  Dolphins  17

Tanner:  Two evenly matched teams, but Buffalo is coming off of a disappointing loss to the 49ers, and the Dolphins are not as good as their record states.  This one could be a shootout, but I like the Bills.

Bills  24,  Miami  21

Tanner:  The Jets are coming off of a disappointing loss at home to the Denver Broncos and look to rebound against San Francisco.  The Niners won't be able to utilize Frank Gore on a solid run defense.  Jets big time in this one.

Jets  38,  49ers  13

Sayre:  I also feel the Jets are the better team, but I think it could come down to the last possession of the game.  It just seems like one of those games.  Frank Gore is better than he has played lately, but the Jets have the right man for a fourth quarter comeback, Mr. Wrangler himself.

Jets  31,  49ers  29

Sayre:  The Seahawks rank right up there in the league's most disappointing teams, and the Patriots are doing fairly well despite missing their top players on both sides of the ball.  I think Matt Cassel could just go off in this game, and the Patriots will dominate from the start.

Patriots 34,  Seahawks 17

Tanner:  Seattle is an awful team on both sides of the ball, the Patriots are not.  New England should be able to shred the Seahawks' awful pass defense.  Matt Cassel will have a big day I think as well.

Patriots  31,  Seahawks  14

Tanner:  Both teams are coming off solid victories, but Denver is smelling blood after an embarrassing loss earlier this season.  Expect Jay Cutler to have a big day through the air, and the Broncos get their revenge.

Broncos  31,  Chiefs  17

Sayre:  I also think the Broncos can smell the blood.  Denver needs this victory to maintain their three game lead in the AFC West.  The Broncos also may get back Nate Webster and Champ Bailey from injury.  Look for Peyton Hillis to have a big game at home this weekend.

Broncos  30,  Chiefs  19

Sayre:  The Cardinals can clinch their first division title since the Jake Plummer era, and Kurt Warner is playing like he is 28 again.  I think the Cards will finally be able to call themselves division champions after a whooping of the Rams.

Cardinals  40, Rams  17

Tanner:  Arizona is coming off of a whooping from the Eagles, and Kurt Warner had a rare off day.  Don't expect that to continue against a bad team in the Rams, especially since they are travelling to University of Phoenix Stadium.

Cardinals  33,  Rams  10

Tanner:  If Dallas expects to keep their playoff hopes alive, they need this win in a bad way.  Pittsburgh has the number one defense in the league, and the Cowboys have an explosive offense.  The Steelers will be too much for a team that could be without DeMarcus Ware and Marion Barber.

Steelers  31,  Cowboys  28

Sayre:  I'm going to go the other way in this one.  I think the Cowboys are hot right now, and they could surprise some people this weekend.  Pittsburgh's defense is out of this world, but the great offense could best the defense in this matchup.

Cowboys  24,  Steelers  20

Sayre:  I have officially jumped on Baltimore's bandwagon.  Despite my soft spot for Redskin RB Clinton Portis, I have a feeling the Ravens are going to win this one, and fairly easily.

Ravens  30,  Redskins 20

Tanner:  Baltimore is another pleasent surprise looking to make a playoff run.  Washington will be going up one of the best defenses in the NFL, and this game could come down to who has the ball last I think.

Ravens  24,  Redskins  20

Tanner:  This game will potentially decide who wins the NFC South.  Both teams are playing extremely well this season, and Carolina should get the win based on their offensive performace as of late.

Panthers  26,  Buccaneers  24

Sayre:  This is definitely the game of the week, and man did ESPN need it.  I have been very impressed with both teams, but I just have a gut feeling that the Panthers are the better of these two teams.  I think this game will be close, but the Panthers pull away late.

Panthers  30,  Buccaneers  23
