BCS Rankings 2011: The 5 Most Overrated Teams in the USA Today Poll
The recently released USA Today poll is the first that will count towards the BCS rankings that will be unveiled tonight.
As it is still fairly early on in the season, there are still some teams who have yet to face a true test on their schedule.
That being the case, many teams' records are inflated, and many of the teams in the current Top 25 are overrated.
No. 7 Boise State Broncos
1 of 5This one may upset some people out in Boise, Idaho, but the Boise State Broncos are overrated, with just one worthy opponent thus far.
A win over the Georgia Bulldogs is the only impressive piece to the Broncos' resume.
Playing teams like Colorado State and Toledo will not gain you much credibility.
Here's an idea: join a real conference, Boise State.
No. 11 Nebraska Cornhuskers
2 of 5Despite being ranked No. 11 in the nation in the USA Today poll, the jury is still out on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Taylor Martinez has thrown as many interceptions as touchdowns, and the one ranked team they played resulted in a 48-17 thumping by the Wisconsin Badgers.
We will see what the Cornhuskers are made of when the travel to Michigan State in two weeks, but when your signature win is a one-touchdown victory of a reeling Ohio State team, you don't have much of an argument for being No. 11 in the country.
No. 19 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
3 of 5On Saturday, we saw the true colors of this Georgia Tech team when they lost to Virginia 24-21.
Headed into the weekend, the Yellow Jackets were undefeated and ranked as high No. 12, but after the loss to the Cavaliers, they dropped seven spots.
Don't expect them to hold the No. 19 spot for long either, as they head to Miami to face the Hurricanes next week and then welcome Clemson and Virginia Tech to Atlanta the following two weeks.
It wouldn't be a surprise if the Yellow Jackets are unranked after next weekend and stay that way for the rest of the season.
No. 20 Houston Cougars
4 of 5The Houston Cougars are undefeated at 6-0 with one of the best offenses in the country to this point in the season and certainly deserve to be ranked, but that does not mean they aren't overrated.
A Week 1 win against a UCLA team that now sits at 3-3 is the signature win of the Cougars'. Other wins have come against the likes of Georgia State and North Texas.
Looking at their schedule, the Cougars could very well go undefeated, as they don't face a ranked team all season.
If that is the case, they will more than likely end up as the most overrated team in college football.
No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks
5 of 5Just barely squeaking out a win on Saturday against Mississippi State, the South Carolina Gamecocks still have plenty of question marks despite being ranked No. 12 in the nation.
After Stephen Garcia was dismissed from the team, Connor Shaw stepped in and showed the ability to quarterback this team, but he was also very shaky at moments.
Against Mississippi State, Shaw threw two interceptions to one touchdown.
With the news that Marcus Lattimore is out for the year with a knee injury, the Gamecocks may not hold onto the No. 12 spot for long.
