Rams vs. Packers: 5 Adjustments St. Louis Must Make at the Half

Aliko CarterOct 16, 2011

The Rams certainly have their hands full with the Packers today. Their season has not started off as expected, so beating the undefeated Super Bowl-champion Packers for their first win would be huge for this struggling team. Here are five adjustments the Rams should make to try to take down the Cheeseheads in the second half:

1. Pressure Aaron Rodgers

The Rams have already sacked Rodgers once, but getting him scrambling has become more the exception than the rule. Rodgers has been spending a lot of time in the pocket, and he seems to have forever to throw when he chooses to leave it. He's been great on the run, even picking up a few rushing yards himself. The Rams need to pressure him, because he's making it look really easy right now.

2. Deal with the Wind

In the first quarter, Josh Brown missed a 47-yard field goal that would have put the Rams on the board, and given them a little bit of a confidence boost. Brown looked very uncomfortable out there with his body language and facial expressions; he looked like he didn't believe he was going to make it. He needs to deal with the wind and make the necessary adjustments should Sam Bradford get them into scoring position again. The 36-yarder at the end of the first half should give him a needed confidence boost.

3. Avoid Clay Matthews

Clay Matthews gave Sam Bradford a few really powerful hits near the end of the second half. The Rams' offensive line has to do a better job of protecting their quarterback, because he's one of the few people who looks like he's doing something right for this team.

4. More No-Huddle

The Rams' seldom-used no-huddle offense has looked sharp in the opening quarters of the game. Sam Bradford is looking more like the quarterback we thought he was in the preseason. He's relatively poised, and has already recorded 167 yards, with no interceptions.

5. Third Down Conversions

The Rams need more than just three points at time if they're going to get back into this game. They need to covert their third downs in the Packer territory, and maybe they can get this game to a reasonable deficit by the fourth quarter
