Hopkins vs. Dawson: Whats Next for Both Fighters After Bizarre Ending?

Lets face it, there wasn't a huge audience for this fight to begin with, especially as a pay per view event. The weird ending, Hopkins' age and Chad Dawson's lack of main stream appeal makes a rematch even less attractive.

So what's next?

Chad Dawson already called out Jean Pascal. He badly wants to stake his claim to the light heavyweight division and he isn't satisfied with winning the title the way he did. Pascal defeated Dawson in a semi-controversial decision in 2010. It is the only blemish, record-wise on Bad Chad's career.

Though winning this fight will garner more respect than what happened in the Hopkins fight, it still won't bring him the type of attention a stellar record like his deserves. He could challenge Steve Cunningham at cruiser-weight, or possibly consider a catch weight bout against Lucian Bute, Carl Froch or Andre Ward.

Dawson is only 29 years old, he must put this behind him and move on with his excellent career.

Whether you believe Hopkins was injured legitimately or not, this fight proves it is time for this glorious and legendary career to end. As he lie on the canvas Saturday night, that old cult classic commercial for LifeCall came to my mind. You know the one where the elderly lady falls and says "I've fallen and I can't get up."

Hopkins has been a great champion of two weight classes, he is a no-doubt hall of famer. He is also the rare fighter who is competing at a time where there isn't a fighter capable of completely exposing his age in his weight class.

Still, the Hopkins name brings about a certain amount of attention and expectations his body can't satisfy. Hopkins fights have never been pleasing to the eye, now they are nearly unwatchable.

Promote fights and criticize Donovan McNabb full-time, it should be over.
