Tiger Woods' Selection on Presidents Cup Is Best Choice for Golf
Fred Couples made the right move by putting Tiger Woods on the Presidents Cup team. The Presidents Cup is one of the highlighted events on the golf schedule, and those events are more interesting when Tiger is playing.
Still the selection has been met with plenty of criticism. Tiger is not at the top of his game. He has shown signs of improvement, but he is still struggling just to make a cut.
Greg Norman recently came out and said the selection of Tiger Woods was the wrong move. Here is Norman, as quoted on the USA Today:
""I wouldn't have (picked Woods). I think Keegan Bradley was much more deserving. I can understand the name of a Tiger Woods and his history of what he's done on the golf course. But I pick the guys who I think are ready to get in there and play and have performed to the highest levels leading up to it."
"
It is not hard to argue that Bradley's recent play has been at a higher level than Woods. However, the overall purpose of this event is drama and entertainment. And no one provides that like Tiger.
Woods has shown enough promise and improvements in his game that it would be foolish to expect him to hit the course and fail. He has been playing at a high enough level that the selection wasn't solely made on the basis of his ability to create interest. It was just what pushed him beyond others he his play was slightly behind.
