Week 6 Fantasy Football Projections: Ryan Torain and 4 Best RBs

Jon DoveOct 16, 2011

Ryan Torain, Adrian Peterson, Fred Jackson and James Starks will be the top performing fantasy running backs.  Fantasy football is dependent on a equal balance of talent and a favorable matchup.

Each week, fantasy owners study the schedule trying to find the most favorable matchups.  Chances are you will be hesitate to start a player against a top defense like the Ravens.  However, if a player is facing the Cardinals he might be a good start.

The Washington Redskins have put a lot of emphasis on running the football.  Mike Shanahan has used a few different running backs, killing fantasy owners.  However, he seems to favor Ryan Torain, who is returning to form after an injury.  When healthy, Torain has been Shanahan's top running back choice, even dating back to his days in Denver.

I expect Torain to get the bulk of the carriers versus the Philadelphia Eagles.  Torain's role will be significant, as the Eagles run defense is among the worst in the NFL.  Expect the Redskins to feature a run-heavy attack.

Adrian Peterson

You might be surprised to learn that the Chicago Bears are ranked 28th in stopping the run.  The Bears defense is known for their ability to play strong defense.  However, they have not played at a high level this season.

Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson is having another great season.  He is the Vikings entire offense, proving to be their only real playmaker.  The Bears are very aware of this fact, but I still expect Peterson to have a successful game.  Peterson might not have a great yards per carry, but he will have enough touches to have a good fantasy day.

Fred Jackson

Fred Jackson is a major part of the Buffalo Bills game plan.  He is featured in both the running and passing game.

Each week, he has found a way to make a big play.  Buffalo is playing the New York Giants, a team that is very turnover prone.  Those turnovers give opposing offenses extra possessions. The more turnovers the Bills can create, the more touches for Fred Jackson.

James Starks

The Green Bay Packers offense is capable of scoring a ton of points.  Their ability to move up and down the field provides everyone with red zone opportunities.  James Starks is the Packers top running back making him likely to receive a few goal line carries.

Starks overall value is limited because of the Packers commitment to the passing game.  However, with Green Bay facing the St. Louis Rams we could see more rushing attempts.  The Packers could jump out to an early lead, then use the running game to run out the clock.
