NFL Picks Week 6: Picks for Every Game on Sunday

Jon DoveOct 16, 2011

San Francisco 49ers vs. Detroit Lions

The 49ers are one of the biggest surprises of the early season. However, the Lions have shocked some people too, and are actually undefeated. I think the West Coast to East Coast travel will finally catch up to the 49ers. Detroit's offense will have a few quick strikes, while also limiting the 49ers' offense.

St. Louis Rams vs. Green Bay Packers

The Rams are not playing very good football, while the Packers looked poised for another Super Bowl run.  St. Louis has not shown anything to make me feel they have a chance on the road versus the Packers.  I anticipate another big day for Aaron Rodgers.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons

Cam Newton gets his second career victory today.

The Panthers are the best one-win team in the entire NFL, including the Eagles. They may not boast a lot of big name talent, but they are playing good football. It all starts with Cam Newton, who has looked fantastic so far this season.

Meanwhile, the Falcons seem to be in a funk.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Cincinnati Bengals

I am on board the Bengals' rebuilding project. This is a very talented team, who has quickly moved past the Carson Palmer situation.

Andy Dalton and A.J. Green appear ready to dominate the NFL for years to come.  Don't sleep on this Bengals defense, one of the best in the league.

Buffalo Bills vs. New York Giants

Eli Manning and the Giants will commit just enough turnovers to lose another football game.  The Bills offense is potent enough to make the Giants pay for every mistake.

It is also worth pointing out that the Bills are among the league leaders in forced turnovers, while the Giants are known for giving away the ball.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Poor Blaine Gabbert has to face a defense that is angry about their early-season struggles. This Steelers defense might be aging, but they are still very good. Gabbert should expect to see a ton of pressure, likely forcing an interception or two.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Redskins

This is the week that Philadelphia shows up and earns a big victory. I fully expect to see some changes in the defensive game plan, with a more aggressive look.

The Redskins defense will not just roll over for the Eagles. This is a very good unit, who won't be intimidated by all the talent on the Eagles. However, I think Mike Vick and company do just enough to pull out the victory.

Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens

Houston has suffered too many injuries to be able to get a tough win on the road. They are still working their way through the injuries, most of which happened recently. The Ravens have looked very good all season, minus the hiccup at Tennessee.

This game will be close, but the Ravens defense will just be too much to overcome.

Cleveland Browns vs. Oakland Raiders

Oakland is another team that I feel has a chance to make some waves. They have a real offensive identity, which they are very successful at operating. Darren McFadden and the Raiders running game might be the best in the entire NFL.

They are able to run the ball despite the entire league knowing their plans. I project a big day for McFadden, with Darius Heyward- Bey contributing a big strike.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New England Patriots

This is going to be a close game, but the Patriots are too tough at home. I don't see a scenario where the Cowboys can keep up with the New England offense, not without Romo having a few turnovers. The only shot Dallas has is because of the Patriots' defensive problems.

New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay is not going to be the same football team without LeGarrette Blount. His absence means that the Bucs will be forced to throw the football. While, Josh Freeman is a good quarterback, he is bound to make a mistake or two.

Freeman will be facing an aggressive Saints defense looking to force a turnover. Any mistakes will be taken advantage by Drew Brees and the Saints offense.

Minnesota Vikings  vs. Chicago Bears

A must-win game for both teams, but the Bears might be the only one with a real shot at the playoffs. Chicago has the home-field advantage, and they are going to need it.

Minnesota has played better than their record, at least in the first half. I expect to see a heavy dose of Adrian Peterson.  However, a motivated Bears defense limits Peterson's effectiveness, something that ultimately win the game.

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets

Both of these teams have not started the way they would have liked. However, the Jets are in a better position, still having a shot at the playoffs. I expect the Jets offense to have success running the football.

The offensive will have a very balanced but productive day. The moral in Miami is very low, limiting their chance for a victory.
