NFL Week 6: 5 Must-Watch Games

James TateOct 16, 2011

Things are starting to take shape by this point in the NFL season.  As is the case every year, there are a few teams that are playing a lot better than anyone thought they would, and a few teams that are not living up to expectations.

This week features some quality matchups headlined by Tony Romo and the Cowboys against Tom Brady and the Patriots.  Here is a look at the five best games Week 6 has to offer.

San Francisco 49ers @ Detroit Lions

1 of 5

The 4-1 49ers travel to Detroit to take on the 5-0 Lions.  That is a sentence most people did not think they would see before the season started.

This game features two teams with very different styles.  The Lions are winning games by throwing the ball all over the field.  They rely pretty heavily on the big play.  They will look to take advantage of the 49ers 23rd ranked passing defense.

The 49ers take more of an old school approach.  They run the ball and stop the run.  They will look to give Frank Gore a lot of carries to keep Matthew Stafford and company on the sideline.

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons

2 of 5

Cam Newton is becoming one of those "must watch" guys.  He is still making some rookie mistakes, but he is also making a lot of big plays.

It has not translated into wins as much as the Panthers would like early on, but they have to be excited about the foundation they are building.

Today the Panthers travel to Atlanta to take on the struggling Falcons.  A Carolina win would put both teams at 2-4.  That is not where the Falcons thought they would be when the season opened.

There should be a lot of big plays in this one from guys like Steve Smith and Roddy White.

Buffalo Bills @ New York Giants

3 of 5

This is another game that will feature a lot of offense.  The Bills head into this game having scored less than 30 points just once in five games.

The Giants have also been putting points on the board.  They are averaging 25.4 points per game.

Neither team has been very strong on defense, so take the over in this one.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins

4 of 5

The 1-4 Dream Team travels to Washington today to take on the Redskins.

For the Eagles, this is pretty much an elimination game.  There is not a lot of hope for making the playoffs if they start out 1-5.

The Redskins are quietly 3-1.  They come into this game off of their bye, and Mike Shanahan will be ready to give all three of his running backs a try against the Eagles and their 30th ranked rushing defense.

Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots

5 of 5

This is another game where you should take the over.

The Patriots enter this game with the 32nd ranked pass defense.  They are giving up 326.6 yards per game.  It does not get any easier this week against Tony Romo and company.

The Cowboys defense has been good through the first five weeks.  They rank first against the run and 14th against the pass.  Can they continue to hold up against Tom Brady?

Whoever has the ball last in this one probably wins the game.
