Boise St. Football: Predicting the Broncos' BCS Ranking
It's another season and another undefeated squad so far for Boise State. Having dispatched Colorado State by a 63-13 score on Saturday, the Broncos now await the initial BCS rankings to be released tomorrow night.
These rankings will help determine if Boise State has a chance to play for a national championship in January in New Orleans.
In years past an undefeated Boise State team has not been able to crack the top two. This may however be the year, and with the way it looks, the Broncos could be sitting pretty come tomorrow night.
Whether they are able to remain there or not remains to be seen, but a high BCS ranking for Boise State should not come as a surprise at all.
The BCS rankings are made up of the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Poll, which make up two-thirds of the total rankings.
The other third is a computer element, with six computer rankings.
While Boise St. does not play the toughest schedule in the country, they are ranked No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the Harris poll.
The computer element is not likely to help Boise State, particularly later in the season when they get more into conference play, but it will also not hurt them too much at this point with the five straight wins Georgia has reeled off in recent weeks.
With that being said, there are still a lot of undefeated teams and Boise State will not be near the top of the list, but somewhere in the middle.
The Broncos do not have the schedule strength of teams like LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St and Alabama so far, but they fall in somewhere near the front of the next group.
With that being said the Broncos should see a BCS ranking tomorrow of No. 5, possibly No. 6 at the worst behind Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
That will position Boise State to have a shot to play for a national championship if they can win the remainder of their games.
Eventually it is going to happen, and maybe this will be the year for the Broncos.
