BCS Rankings 2011: Teams That Deserve Rankings That Won't Make the Cut
There are complaints every year when the first BCS Rankings are released to the public.
Typically, there is only one fan base that is ever happy with the rankings and that is because they see their team at the top of the list.
Despite the complaints, the ranking system is here to stay, at least for the time being.
That won't stop us from complaining though.
Here are three teams that deserve rankings yet won't make the cut.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Forget what West Virginia has been able to do this season. It's actually Rutgers that is currently sitting at the top of the Big East Standings.
At 5-1, the Scarlet Knights suffered their only loss of the season at the hands of North Carolina. That loss only came by a two-point deficit.
Rutgers has gotten to that spot by boasting the 11th ranked scoring defense in the nation. They have allowed just 15.2 points per game.
Despite this, Rutgers likely won't have the enough to break into the Top 25. Their most notable wins came against Pittsburgh and Syracuse. They likely won't get any respect in the ratings.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Sitting at the top of the Leaders division in the Big Ten, Penn State has really flown under the radar this season.
At 6-1, Penn State has only lost to No. 2 Alabama.
Despite winning the rest of their games and allowing an amazing 10.5 points per game, nobody is talking about the Nittany Lions.
They don't win big, and they don't make it pretty.
At the end of the day they are 6-1 and do deserve a spot somewhere in the rankings.
Cincinnati Bearcats
It seems like all that matters anymore isn't whether or not your win or lose. It's whether or not you lose, and who you win against.
For teams like Cincinnati, it's often why they are overlooked.
For a team that is scoring at a rate of 45.0 points per game and allowing 16.6 points per game, it's confusing why they aren't getting any attention.
It's because they have only played one team worth mentioning, Tennessee, and they fell short in that game.
With one of the top offenses and defenses, and sitting at a 5-1 record it's still difficult to say they don't deserve a place in the Top 25 rankings.
