NFL Fantasy Week 6 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Cam Newton and 3 Rookies Who Will Shine

Brian MaziqueOct 15, 2011

By Week 6 you generally know if a rookie is going to be a fantasy contributor for the long haul or not, and "Killer Cam" surely will be. I think he engineers a win over Atlanta with some major fantasy numbers, as the Falcons pass coverage has been poor all season.

The Panthers have been very inconsistent in running the football. This adds up to another stellar fantasy game for Newton.

The New York Jets have had their struggles stopping the run this year. They are currently 26th in rushing yards allowed. The Dolphins passing game isn't much better; this points to a heavy rushing attack with Daniel Thomas. The rookie is averaging almost five yards per carry in 41 attempts.

He is the type of big and physical back that can run it 20 times, but he should also get some looks out of the backfield. This will be a likely target area for Matt Moore. Give Thomas a start a flex position at least.

Many believe that Torrey Smith was a one game wonder for the Baltimore Ravens when he torched the St. Louis Rams for three TDs in Week 3. He was hurt in that game and followed up that performance with just one catch for one yard in Week 4.

I am surely not implying he is an automatic start every week, but with Lee Evans out again, Smith is getting the start for the third consecutive game. He is a big play receiver and the Houston Texans defense has given up decent games to similar players this year.

Darius Heyward-Bey (7 catches for 99 yards TD) and Mike Wallace (4 catches for 77 yards) had some success in recent games. These aren't premier fantasy totals, but they each represent a great output for the flex position.
