Fantasy Football Week 6 Rankings: Victor Cruz and Other Top Young WRs

Michael DixonOct 15, 2011

Young, unproven receivers are always a gamble at receiver. Quarterbacks, particularly veteran quarterbacks, will tend to get comfortable with more proven options.

Also, mistakes of a rookie are going to be highlighted, particularly in the relatively early season. Look at it this way: if Calvin Johnson drops a pass, runs the wrong route or fumbles a ball, are Matthew Stafford and the Lions going to stop throwing the ball his way? Doubtful.

But if a kid does that, it's much easier for them to get lost in the shuffle.

Still, the matchups are right for these rookie receivers to have a very nice day. Maybe they are viewed as risks, but they are well worth it.

Victor Cruz

If you play in a PPR league, Cruz is a good option. If you play in a league that rewards big plays, Cruz is a good option.

When you show Eli Manning that he's capable of making a big play, history suggests that he will lock into you and make you a fantasy giant.

Yes, Cruz does look like a rookie at times (though he's not). But at other times, he's just spectacular.

Put this guy in your starting lineup and leave him there.

Green is well on pace to receive for more than 1,000 yards this season. He's been consistently good and is getting better.

Indianapolis isn't going to give him any more of a test than other teams have.

Plus, rookies tend to flock to each other. Green is a rookie that has a rookie throwing him the ball in Andy Dalton.

Green is turning into one of the more reliable receiving options in the league, rookie or otherwise.

Denarius Moore

Unlike the other two, Moore's production has been somewhat down in recent weeks. But I really like this matchup.

Without Joe Haden, the Raiders passing attack will be in full force on Sunday. Moore is also a good threat for a reverse, which he's done before to pick up a point or two for his owners.

This is certainly more of a hunch than Cruz or Green, but I like Moore's chances to have at least a solid day. This has potential to be a monstrous day.
