NFL Trade Rumors: Deal for Brandon Lloyd Should Be No-Brainer for St. Louis Rams

Matt FaulconerOct 15, 2011

Brandon Lloyd's appearance on the trade block was quite the surprise, but the St. Louis Rams need to pounce on this opportunity.

According to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network, there is a 90 percent chance that the Denver Broncos move Lloyd before the trade deadline.

"

They have to shop Lloyd. Lloyd doesn’t have (his) contract extended after this season. So if they don’t trade him now, they’ll get nothing but a compensatory pick for him. What I find humorous is they have said they will take a third-, fourth- or fifth-round pick. If I was a GM, why would I offer anything but a sixth-round pick for him since they put out the price? I really believe Lloyd will be traded by Tuesday of next week.

It should be pretty easy for the Rams to acquire Lloyd at this point. He has yet to be dealt, so a fifth-round pick should be enough for the Rams to acquire the disgruntled receiver.

Lloyd has been a bit outspoken during his time in Denver, and has openly supported Kyle Orton over Tim Tebow.

The St. Louis Rams have gotten absolutely nothing out of their WRs to this point. They expected Mike Sims-Walker to be the No. 1 WR, but he has been a huge disappointment.

Sims-Walker has been on the field for 166 passing plays this season, but has only been able to haul in 11 passes. That's not going to impress anyone at this point.

The Rams receivers as a whole have dropped a total of 17 passes already this season. For the year as a whole, Sam Bradford has attempted 151 passes, but only 127 of them have been "aimed." 24 of Bradford's passes were either thrown away, batted down or he was hit as he threw.

When taking that into account, 13 percent of Bradford's aimed passes have been dropped this season. That is completely unacceptable. The Rams have to do something to help out their franchise quarterback.

With Danny Amendola out for the season, Bradford needs to find a safety net. Lloyd can certainly be that guy. So far this season, Lloyd has hauled in 19 of his 33 targets. A percentage that Bradford would die for at this point.

The Rams are 0-4, but they certainly aren't out of it yet. They are just three games behind the San Francisco 49ers, and they still get to play them twice. If they can add Lloyd, Bradford may be able to help this team turn the season around.

The Rams need to make this deal happen immediately.
