Liverpool vs Manchester United: David De Gea Faces Tough Test at Anfield

Nicholas GossOct 15, 2011

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has not had an easy transition the Premier League this season since making a summer transfer move from La Liga side Atletico Madrid, but he seems to finally be settling in the third month of the season.

De Gea had some shaky performances earlier in the season but with good performances against Arsenal and Chelsea at Old Trafford, the young Spanish star is getting comfortable in England.

Coming into a new country that's unfamiliar is tough to do for a young footballer.

His manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, spoke about those challenges to Soccernet.com earlier this season:

"

There's a lot that he has had to deal with and he's showing a lot of composure. He is 20 and coming into a country where he doesn't know the culture. He doesn't speak English, he's been looking for a house and he's found one now; he's been learning to drive in England.

"

His biggest test of the season thus far will be against Liverpool on Saturday at Anfield.

The Reds have many great attackers, such as Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, who will take many shots on De Gea to test him early.

Liverpool will also be boosted by captain Steven Gerrard, who is getting better with each game since making a recent return to the lineup following a lengthy injury recovery.

De Gea must be sharp against Liverpool because they have a lot of pace, but more importantly they have many accurate shooters who can pick the top corner with ease.

Suarez, Carroll, Gerrard, Stuart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson are all capable of scoring beautiful goals that are perfectly placed.

De Gea must focus and be well positioned because any misjudgments could result in a few quick Liverpool goals.

Liverpool needs a win badly to have a chance at winning the Premier League title this season, so they will give a full effort to play an attacking style of football in order to get a quick score.

If De Gea doesn't have a good start to this game, his confidence will crumble and Liverpool will be in a great position to take all three points.
