NFL Predictions: 3 Locks for Week 6

Adam SimoneOct 14, 2011

This is for everyone who is in an eliminator league. The point of eliminator leagues is to pick a different team each week that you expect to win. You can only pick a team once during the season, so you have to choose wisely.

I will offer my top three eliminator games of the week, including my Lock of the Week. Last week, I suffered my first loss of the year in my Lock of the Week, as the New York Giants were upset at home by Seattle.

Previous Locks of the Week: 4-1

Week 1: Cardinals, W 28-21

Week 2: Redskins, W 22-21

Week 3: Chargers, W 20-17

Week 4: Buccaneers, W 24-17

Week 5: Giants, L 25-36

No. 3 Browns (2-2) at Raiders (3-2)

1 of 3

I had a hard time picking which game to go with as my third Lock of the Week, but decided to take the Oakland Raiders at home against Cleveland.

Cleveland is 2-2 so far this year, but their two wins are against Miami and Indianapolis. Colt McCoy has played pretty well, averaging 246 yards per game with six touchdowns and only three interceptions.

The Browns running game has struggled, though. Peyton Hillis is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry and hasn't been close to the running back we saw last year.

The Raiders running game has been pretty productive. Darren McFadden is averaging 103 yards per game and has three touchdowns. The Browns run defense ranks 25th in the NFL, so I look for McFadden to have a good game.

Prediction: Raiders 27-21

No. 2 Rams (0-4) at Packers (5-0)

2 of 3

I could have easily selected this as my Lock of the Week, but I decided to save Green Bay for later in the year. If you haven't used them, though, they would be a great option going against the winless Rams.

St. Louis has really struggled offensively. Sam Bradford has only thrown three touchdown passes and running back Steven Jackson has struggled with an injury. He looks to be close to full strength this week but the bad news is, the Packers have the third-ranked run defense in the NFL.

Green Bay got a huge win last week in Atlanta and Aaron Rodgers continues to roll. Rodgers is averaging 344 yards per game and has thrown 14 touchdown passes.

St. Louis pass defense does rank in the top half of the NFL, but I think that may have more to do with teams not having to throw the ball against them to win.

I expect Rodgers and the Packers to have another big game and to roll to an easy victory at home.

Prediction: Packers 31-14

Lock of the Week: Jaguars (1-4) at Steelers (3-2)

3 of 3

I think Green Bay is the obvious choice for the Lock of the Week, but since you can only use a team once, I'm going with Pittsburgh this week. The Steelers have not looked great this year, but they get a struggling Jacksonville team at home.

Jacksonville has had to rely on Maurice Jones-Drew all year, due to their 32nd-ranked pass offense. Rookie Blaine Gabbert has been a slight upgrade from Luke McCown, but he still hasn't been able to have a breakout game yet.

Pittsburgh hasn't been that good offensively either, but Ben Roethlisberger is averaging 275 yards per game and has thrown eight touchdown passes.

I look for this one to be a low-scoring game. Jacksonville will have to rely on MJD again, but Pittsburgh only gives up 108 rushing yards per game. Jacksonville's defense has been pretty steady this year, so I look for them to keep this fairly close as they seem to have success against Pittsburgh.

Prediction: Steelers 24-14
