Fantasy Football Week 6 Rankings: Michael Vick and 3 Most Risky Quarterbacks

John RozumOct 14, 2011

Having a starting quarterback in fantasy football who always plays at a high level of consistency is arguably the single most important factor to winning.

It's no secret the league has relied vehemently more on passing, especially since pass defenses have yet to adjust. On the flip-side, a risky quarterback will set you back so far that it may just be the reason you miss the playoffs.

So with that in mind, here are the three riskiest fantasy football quarterbacks of Week 6.

3. Michael Vick, Eagles (at Redskins)

The Redskins have a top 10 defense, and although the Philly offense is still solid despite the 1-4 record, quarterback Mike Vick has clearly underperformed. After Vick threw four picks against a weak Bills defense, Washington is licking their chops.

For one, Washington knows they can get to Vick as his offensive line is the weakest link on Philly's offense, and blitzing will only disrupt his timing.

Also, his possessions will be limited due to the Redskins' ground game as the Eagles can't stop the run.

Only start Vick if you play in a two-QB league, because he won't come within one-fourth of what he did to Washington in 2010.

2. Jay Cutler, Bears (vs Vikings)

Although the Vikings have a very weak pass defense, the Bears aren't so great at throwing the ball either.

RB Matt Forte is their offense and expect Minnesota to focus on him more than Cutler.

However, don't expect Cutler to do too much as he's yet to prove anything in 2011.

At times he can be great, but no defense is going to respect him until he actually does beat them,. Shutting down Forte is only going to make things more difficult on Cutler, as he has enough trouble even when Forte plays well.

1. Matt Schaub, Texans (at Ravens)

It's not that Schaub is a bad quarterback, but more so because the Ravens have a top 10 defense and Houston's best player, receiver Andre Johnson, is out.

With Johnson, Baltimore would still be able to slow the Texans offense, but without Johnson there's virtually no chance of Schaub putting up his normal numbers.

Baltimore will blitz and blitz hard, as well as prevent the running game from being effective.

Thus, safety Ed Reed takes over in the second half because the Ravens will have a solid enough of a lead to force the Texans into becoming one-dimensional.

And being one-dimensional, even if the passing game is your supposed strength, won't work against Mr. Reed and company.
