NFL Trade Deadline: Brandon Lloyd Would Make Washington Redskins Contenders

Gabe ZaldivarOct 14, 2011

Tim Tebow's promotion has set off a domino effect of activity. That one maneuver may see the Washington Redskins get the playmaker they need on the wings.

With Tim Tebow taking the reins of the Broncos offense, things are about to change. That includes personnel, as the offense is tweaked to fit the specific talents of Tebow.

It seems that one player on the outside looking in is receiver Brandon Lloyd. The Broncos have placed him on the trade block ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

The question now is where Lloyd could end up. ESPN columnist Dan Graziano tweets, in response to a fan, a possible destination for the star receiver.

The Washington Redskins join a couple of other teams that have been bandied about as Lloyd continues to draw interest.

CBS Sports reports the Titans and Panthers have also shown interest in Lloyd. However, the Redskins would be the perfect fit for a player that is trying to prove himself as a potential key cog in an offense.

It's safe to say that Lloyd has gone to waste in Denver as they try to figure out another year in the doldrums. NFL players' prime years are few, and it's time Lloyd got the chance to play for a winner.

Going back to the Redskins makes sense. Washington is missing a receiver that can make the big plays. They have the defense to match wits with most teams. They even have a marvelous rushing attack that utilizes a three-headed monster of Ryan Torain, Roy Helu and Tim Hightower.

The last cherry on top of the sundae is a receiver that can add to Rex Grossman's fine start. The best part for Lloyd is that he can make things right with Redskins fans.

His stint in Washington left a bad taste in the fans' mouths, but this would be different. Lloyd would be a featured target on a winning team.

If the asking price is just right, the Redskins couldn't ask for a better piece to fill out their team. The Redskins look primed for the playoffs. A star receiver is just what they need to ensure that they get there.

This trade would be perfect for both teams, and Lloyd himself.
