NFL Trade Rumors: 5 Best Destinations for Denver Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd

Zach KruseOct 14, 2011

The Denver Broncos have put Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Lloyd on the trading block and have received called from several teams, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

The Broncos are reportedly looking for a third-to-fifth round pick in return for Lloyd, who has 19 catches for 283 yards in 2011. Lloyd made the Pro Bowl last season, when he caught 77 passes for a league-high 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The NFL trading deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 18, which gives the Broncos five or so days to find a suitor. While fielding calls for a player doesn't necessarily mean he will be dealt, a mid-round pick such as the Broncos are asking for Lloyd is a reasonable price for a productive player.

The five best destinations for Lloyd are as follows:

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are one of the rumored teams to have contacted the Broncos about Lloyd, which makes sense considering their depth at receiver behind Steve Smith. Only Legedu Naanee (12 catches for 138 yards) and Brandon LaFell (13 for 181) have receptions from receivers outside Smith this season.

Lloyd would give Cam Newton another experienced route runner who can get open both underneath and down the field. Carolina is essentially out of playoff contention at 1-4, but adding Lloyd makes sense in both the short and long term here.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans lost Kenny Britt to a knee injury three weeks ago and are still attempting to find ways to replace his production. Lloyd would immediately do that, even if what the Titans really need is a physical receiver like Britt was.

Still, Lloyd can add another target for Matt Hasselbeck, who is having a terrific first year in Tennessee. The Titans are right in the playoff hunt at 3-2 and could use Lloyd down the stretch.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams could pop on more tape of dropped passes this season than any team in the NFL. It's downright embarrassing seeing some of Sam Bradford's passes bounce off young receivers' hands and fall harmlessly to the turf. Lloyd would help eliminate that, as he has among the best hands in the game.

The Rams' season has disintegrated at 0-4, but Lloyd can give both this franchise and its quarterback hope at the receiver position.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers lost receiver Josh Morgan to a season-ending ankle injury, which opens up a need at the position. The team signed former Packers receiver Brett Swain, but he obviously can't add the same impact on offense that Lloyd could. There's also a history there, as Lloyd played in San Francisco during his first three years in the NFL (2002-05).

Chicago Bears

Ideally, the Bears would trade the house for Ryan Clady to come play tackle and keep Jay Cutler upright.

That's not happening, but the Bears could benefit from the return of Lloyd, who played in Chicago in 2008. The Bears mix-and-match group of receivers, which includes Johnny Knox, Roy Williams and Devin Hester, lacks an elite pass catcher.

Knox is the best of the bunch, but he has struggled at times with consistency. Williams doesn't look like he has much left in the tank, and Hester will always be a special teams player that is playing offense.

Lloyd would give the Bears a legitimate receiving threat.
