Projected BCS Rankings 2011: Arizona State and 1-Loss Teams Who'll Be in Top 15
There are so many undefeated teams at this point that promising one-loss teams are being pushed to the wayside. While teams like Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and even rising teams like Clemson soak up all the media attention, dangerous one-loss teams are quietly lurking within striking distance.
There are a number of one-loss teams who aren't just going to crack the BCS rankings, they're going to sneak into the top 15. Here are four such teams.
Arizona State
Arizona State faces the toughest battle they are going to see until the Pac-12 Championship Game. Completely healthy, Oregon would demolish ASU. Luckily for ASU, they are catching the Ducks at their weakest moment.
With LaMichael James dislocating his shoulder, the Sun Devils don't have to worry about one of the best players in the nation. DeAnthony Thomas and Darron Thomas are still going to be tough to shut down, but Vontaze Burfict and ASU put forth one of the most underrated defenses in the country.
If they can slow Oregon, Brock Osweiler has a great shot at coming away with a victory. A win over Oregon would easily catapult them into the top 15.
Arkansas
Arkansas has one loss thus far, and it happened to come at the hands of the team who will likely top the initial BCS rankings. Losing to Alabama could have crippled the Razorbacks, but they battled back and knocked off Texas A&M and Auburn immediately following their loss.
With Ole Miss lying in front of them, it's easy to see Arkansas has a solid chance at holding the designation as the "best one-loss team in the country" until they play LSU to close out the season.
West Virginia
West Virginia hasn't really played anyone worth mentioning aside from LSU, who they were blown away by. Even so, they've shown up in every other game they've played in, and put forth one of the best passing attacks in the entire nation.
West Virginia has a cupcake schedule, and opportunities to gain a signature win are going to be few and far between. Even so, if they are able to run the table from here on out, they could easily crack the top 15 and stay there all season.
South Carolina
South Carolina lost to Auburn by three, but they've established themselves as one of the best teams in the conference. They face Mississippi State this week, but with Marcus Lattimore starting to pick it up again, it's hard to see South Carolina losing this game.
They have a tough SEC schedule lying in front of them, and they haven't suffered their last loss of the season, but South Carolina is one of the top 15 teams in the nation, and the initial rankings will reflect that.
