Week 6 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Star Players Who Should Be Benched

Week 6 of the NFL season has many star players facing bad matchups, and thus should not be started. 

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will be going up against a much improved Detroit Lions defense, and will face pressure all game. 

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub also faces a tough test this week against the vaunted Baltimore Ravens defense.

Let's look at three star players you should bench on your fantasy football team this week. 

Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams

Steven Jackson is slowly getting healthier after suffering a quad injury back in Week 1, but he shouldn't be started against the Green Bay Packers this Sunday. It's a bad matchup for him and the Rams haven't generated a ton of offense this season.

Jackson is the only offensive threat on the Rams, and the Packers will easily game-plan to shut him down. 

Quarterback Sam Bradford hasn't developed as Rams fans thought he would this season. Thus, the Rams offense has been unable to put up points. 

Matt Schaub, Houston Texans

Matt Schaub has had an inconsistent season for the Houston Texans. He hasn't been the stud fantasy quarterback he was last season.

This week, against the highly skilled Baltimore Ravens defense, Schaub will struggle. Making matters worse, he will be without All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson, who will miss the game with a hamstring injury.

The Texans have no choice but to run the ball a lot with Arian Foster if they want to win on Sunday, and that means not as many passing attempts for Schaub. 

Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers

The physical Detroit Lions defensive line will pressure San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith a lot on Sunday, making it difficult to throw for a ton of yards. 

The 49ers will want to use Frank Gore in a more increased role if he's healthy enough, which may cut into Smith's number of passing attempts.

Smith may win the 49ers the game, but his stats won't be good enough to carry your fantasy team to a win.
