Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: Calvin Johnson & 3 Reliable Point-Machine WRs

Michael DixonOct 14, 2011

Across the NFL, the passing game seems to be getting bigger with every passing week. That, along with the reduction of the true featured back in the NFL, has put both quarterback and receiver ahead of running back in terms of fantasy value.

Receiver is actually one of the deeper positions in the league. But we're not really looking at overall depth here. Instead, we're taking a look at the receivers that will be the cream of the crop. It's highly unlikely (or even impossible) that these guys are going to be available.

The best thing you can hope for is that they are on your team. The next best thing is that they aren't on your opponent's team.

Wes Welker

In PPR leagues, this guy is an absolute monster. He's on a pace to not only break the single-season reception record, but shatter it.

But even if you're not in a PPR league, Welker isn't a bad play. He also has a lot of big-play potential and is a pretty good bet to score at least a touchdown.

When you're Tom Brady's favorite option, good things are going to happen.

Dallas is certainly vulnerable against the pass. Another 100-yard day likely awaits Welker. If he does better, it wouldn't be at all surprising.

Calvin Johnson

I want you to consider this. Johnson has caught a touchdown every game this season. In all but one game, he's caught two touchdowns.

He's also been kept below 85 yards only once this season. This guy is simply a monster. The best defensive backs in the league are more or less helpless against him.

Even if he's blanketed, Matthew Stafford always has the option of throwing the ball up and letting Johnson get it. There isn't a defensive back in the league that can stop him.

Actually, there aren't three defenders in the league that can stop him.

Mike Wallace

There are a few receivers who were worthy of being here. But the Jacksonville defense has not done a great job against other top receivers in the game.

Ben Roethlisberger's style seems to mesh perfectly with Wallace. He's a solid PPR option but also a big-play machine. You really can't ask for more out of a receiver.

Given the issues in Pittsburgh's rushing game, don't be surprised if Wallace has a huge performance.
