Danica Patrick Quickest in First Izod IndyCar Series Practice in Las Vegas
34 cars turned a total 1,435 laps today in the first practice session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Danica Patrick turned the fastest lap of all.
Danica turned a lap of 224.719 mph in the No. 7 Go Daddy Honda for Andretti Autosport. This will be Danica's last race in the Izod IndyCar Series before she heads full-time to NASCAR.
It was a great day for her teammates as well. All four cars placed in the top seven positions.
Ryan Hunter-Reay was third quick at 223.888, Mike Conway was fifth quickest at 223.558, and Marco Andretti was seventh quickest at 223.509 mph.
Points Leader Dario Franchitti was ninth quickest today in the No. 10 Target Chip Ganassi Honda. Franchitti turned his best lap of 223.465 mph.
The guy chasing him in the championship, Will Power, was 14th quickest today at 222.220 mph.
Oriol Servia was second quickest to Danica Patrick with a lap of 224.026 mph in the No. 2 Telemundo Honda.
The other car in the top five was Franchitti's teammate Scott Dixon. He was fourth quickest in the No. 9 Target Honda with a lap of 223.689 mph.
If the race is anything like the first practice session we're in for a great show.
All 34 cars were separated by a little over a half of a second.
The Izod IndyCar Series returns to the 1.5 mile oval tomorrow for two practice sessions and qualifying for the 200-lap race on Sunday.
The practice sessions are from 3:30-5:00 P.M. with qualifying starting at 6 P.M. All times Eastern.
Keep posted to the site as I will provide updates all weekend.
