NFL Picks Week 6: Underdogs in Position to Upset This Week

Michael MillOct 13, 2011

With five weeks in the books, we have gotten a pretty good understanding about which teams will be contenders throughout the 2011 season.

Despite this, there still are a few teams that are wavering. It's unclear what direction they will go from here on.

This could make for some key upsets in Week 6 action.

Here are three underdogs in a position to pull off upsets this weekend.

Washington Redskins (+1.5)

This is one that simply made me scratch my head.

The Washington Redskins are sitting at a 3-1 record and are atop of the NFC East. They boast the second-best scoring defense in the league and a solid running game.

The Philadelphia Eagles are at 1-4 and at the bottom of the NFC East. They have one of the worst defenses in the league and an offense that is turnover-prone.

The Eagles are 1.5-point favorites this weekend.

For some reason people still have faith in this Philadelphia team. Maybe that will finally be put to rest after this week.

Carolina Panthers (+4.5)

Only one thing is pretty clear about this weekend's matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. It's going to be exciting.

This one will be a shootout down to the wire.

Cam Newton has led the Panthers' pass-heavy attack with poise and confidence all season. He has broken rookie records already.

This weekend, he could help Carolina find their second win of the season.

The Falcons have been underachieving. The defense has struggled, primarily against the pass. They are currently the 28th-ranked passing defense in the league.

The matchup fits for the Panthers. They could pull off the upset.

Buffalo Bills (+3.0)

For a team that is currently leading the AFC East ahead of the New England Patriots and New York Jets, being 3.0-point underdogs against the Giants this weekend is a real slap in the face.

When are people going to start giving the Bills some respect?

They aren't unstoppable by any means, but they are pretty darn good.

They do have the third-best scoring offense in the league.

They are playing a New York Giants team that has lacked consistency on offense and defense.

Maybe like the Redskins, people will start taking the Bills seriously after this weekend.
