NFL Predictions Week 6: Why Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys Will Lose Big to Patriots

Nicholas GossOct 13, 2011

The Dallas Cowboys travel to take on quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Week 6 of the NFL season, and this is a game the Cowboys really need.

Dallas is struggling to put together consistent stretches of good play, and its fourth quarter performances have been atrocious this season for the most part.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been criticized this season for failing to win games in the final minutes, and while that's nothing new, Dallas could be in first place right now in the NFC East had Romo been able to finish games.

With the Philadelphia Eagles struggling, the division is wide open, but a loss to the Patriots would drop Dallas to 2-3.

In his only ever game against the Patriots, Romo threw for 199 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. This came against the 2007 Patriots, who when they faced Dallas were on their road to an undefeated regular season.

The Patriots offense will destroy the Cowboys defense. Dallas does a good job at getting the quarterback, especially with pass-rushing specialist DeMarcus Ware, but its pass defense is bad.

Dallas has only four interceptions as a team and doesn't have anyone to cover Wes Welker. If Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis could not contain Welker, no one on the Cowboys will.

The biggest worry for the Cowboys' pass defense is the Patriots' two exceptional young tight ends, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

Gronkowski is a nightmare to match up against with his size and great hands, and Hernandez is a tight end with wide receiver speed and route running.

However, not only will Brady's passing attack run over the Cowboys, the Patriots' rushing attack will have its way on Sunday too.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is one of the most underrated running backs in the NFL and has been the key to a rushing attack in New England that has been re-ignited the past few weeks.

The Patriots will score at least 35 points on the Cowboys this week, and as good as the Dallas offense is, it won't be able to keep up with Brady.
