MLB's Top 20 Offensive Prospects at Defensive Positions

Marty AndradeFeb 7, 2008

A baseball player who can man a tough defensive position is always highly valued.  When that player can also handle a bat with some ability, it adds significantly to his worth.

Good offensive players who are catchers, center fielders, shortstops, and second baseman give their teams a lot of flexibility and options.  They are the Swiss Army knives of baseball prospects, and I've listed the top 20 below.

Tony Abreu, 22, 2B
Asdrubal Cabrera, 21, SS
Colby Rasmus, 20, CF
Tony Thomas, 20, 2B
Adam Jones, 21, CF
Sean Rodriguez, 22, SS
Felix Pie, 22, CF
Matt Antonelli, 22, 2B
Ronny Cedeno, 24, SS (Not a prospect anymore, but I think we'll see an offensive bump for him this year.)
Bryan Anderson, 20, C
Justin Upton, 19, CF
Josh Donaldson, 21, C
Jose Martinez, 21, SS
Geovany Soto, 24, C
Max Ramirez, 22, C
Taylor Teagarden, 23, C
Jaime Pedroza, 20, SS
Trevor Plouffe, 21, SS
Jonathan Still, 22, C
Todd Frazier, 21, SS
