Fantasy Football Week 6 Projections: Predicting the Top 3 Receivers This Week

Michael MillOct 13, 2011

With fantasy football, all of the fun is in making the transactions and building your team to win every single weekend.

At some point, though, you have to just sit back and enjoy the games.

That doesn't mean it's not fun to attempt to predict what you think will happen each and every week.

Here are predictions for the top three wide receiver performances this weekend.

3. Calvin Johnson (Detroit Lions)

Let's just face reality. Megatron is an absolute beast. He should be in top three predictions every week regardless of whom the Lions face.

This week that team is the San Francisco 49ers, who have come out with something to prove this year.

They are one of the best-coached teams in the league under Jim Harbaugh. However, coaching can only take you so far. It can't stop Johnson from making catches that no normal human being should be able to make.

Prediction: seven catches, 80 yards, two touchdowns

2. Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboys)

Austin has returned to practice this week. He picked a perfect time to return from his injury.

The Cowboys may not be able to pull off a win against the Patriots, but they will be able to put up a fight in shootout fashion as the Patriots currently have the worst-ranked passing defense in the league.

Say what you want about Tony Romo, but he is going to find Austin often in this one.

Prediction: seven catches, 135 yards, one touchdown

1. Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers)

Everybody wants to talk about rookie sensation Cam Newton in Carolina, and rightfully so, he has been fantastic through five weeks.

It's important to keep an eye on the player who has been on the receiving end of the record-breaking rookie performances.

Steve Smith is currently ranked second in the NFL with 609 receiving yards. In three games, he had over 150 yards.

This is going to be a fourth week with similar results. The Panthers are upset picks for many this week against Atlanta, and ir's going to be a shootout. The Falcons' 28th-ranked pass defense will have its work cut out for it.

Prediction: eight catches, 165 yards, two touchdowns
