Rex Ryan: Why Potential Loss to Miami Dolphins Would Put Coach on Hot Seat

Rex Ryan continues to stick to his Super Bowl prediction while his team struggles to cash the check his mouth wrote. If the Jets are the Miami Dolphins' first win, Ryan will be coaching for his job the rest of the season. 

New York is 2-3; far from the championship contending team that he has predicted. They have one of the NFL's worst offenses even after acquiring Plaxico Burress after the lockout. 

What Ryan has done is put a huge target on his team. Instead of letting his team go out there and win games, Ryan has made each game into the "What Will Rex Ryan Say Next" show.

This season is no longer about the players and how they perform. The season is now about Rex Ryan and his prediction.

Ultimately what a loss to the Dolphins will do is make it very difficult to even make the playoffs.

It would give them another loss in the division and make them one game ahead of the Dolphins for last.

At 2-4 on the season, the playoffs would seem like a dream.

Going from consecutive AFC title games to no playoffs would be a disaster of a season.

How does Rex Ryan have any credibility if the Jets do not even make the playoffs? 

Any confidence he gave his players will be lost and he will look foolish.

Also, the Jets' brass have sent a bit of a message to the team with the trading of Derrick Mason.

If you do not perform and meet expectations, you will be gone.

Do not be surprised if the Jets decide to keep that message alive by sending Ryan packing.

A loss to the Dolphins puts New York's playoff hopes on life support. 

Not making the playoffs would be well short of the expectations set forth by Ryan himself.
