Oklahoma vs. Kansas: Spread Info, BCS Impact, Line and Predictions

Wes ODonnellOct 13, 2011

The Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas Jayhawks have one thing in common: They play in the Big 12.

Other than that, these two teams don't belong on the same field this season.

The Sooners are coming off a dominant showing in the Red River Rivalry, while the Jayhawks were absolutely embarrassed in Stillwater by the Cowboys.

They would like nothing more than to avoid another shellacking, but the Sooners have sympathy for nobody.

The most the Jayhawks have going for them is that they've fared better at home than on the road this year.

If for nothing else, watch to see how the Sooners handle coming off such an emotional high from last week.

Where: Memorial Stadium; Lawrence, Kansas

When: Saturday, October 15 at 9:15 p.m. EST

Watch: ESPN 2 or ESPN3.com

Spread: Oklahoma -36

The Sooners are 4-1 against the spread on the year and even covered a 40-point spread already.

The Jayhawks are 2-3 against the spread, but have lost their last three and were underdogs in all of them.

Their defense is a huge concern, and the Sooners just happen to the be one of the best offenses in the nation.

Even at -36, the Sooners are the play. Oklahoma State easily covered a 31-point spread against the Jayhawks last week.

Over/Under: 72.5

Speaking of last week, Oklahoma State also nearly covered the over all by themselves. Kansas simply has a problem, and almost welcomes teams to score on them.

They give up nearly 600 yards of total offense and 50 points per game.

The Sooners have a better defense than the Cowboys, but these two teams should still cover the over easily.

Oklahoma Key Injuries

Brennan Clay, RB—Coach said he "should" return this week.

Kansas Key Injuries

Daymond Patterson, WR - Out for season.

Brandon Bourbon, RB is Questionable with concussion, according to USA Today.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

There is not much at stake here. Should the Sooners collapse and somehow lose this game it would be a monumental upset. Kansas is nowhere close to being a ranked team and the Sooners are on the hunt for a national championship.

The Sooners just need to keep pace with Alabama and LSU.

That translates to beating up on the Jayhawks.

Keys for Oklahoma Win

Avoid letdown.

The Sooners have never had a problem holding things together after a win over Texas, but it is always a concern.

The Jayhawks don't pose much of a threat on paper and the Sooners need to come out early and simply play the way they have been all year. Landry Jones has been great and they might even get more out of their running game with the return of Brennan Clay.

Oklahoma just needs to keep the tools sharp as they'll welcome in the high-scoring Texas Tech Red Raiders next week.

Keys for Kansas Win

Hope it is opposite day.

There is so much wrong with the Jayhawks' defense right now it is nearly impossible to key anything for a win. They've given up over 42 points in each of the past four games.

They need to do the opposite of everything they've been doing. If that is not possible, they need to hope they can hit Landry Jones and force turnovers.

It is going to be a long day for Kansas.

Prediction: Oklahoma 63, Kansas 21
