Tim Tebow: Why It's a Great Move for the Denver Broncos to Start Him
John Fox and the Denver Broncos finally made the announcement that almost every Broncos fan has been waiting for all season. Tim Tebow will start Week 7 against Miami coming off of Denver's bye this week.
This move makes sense on so many levels its unbelievable. It is a winning situation for almost everyone involved—from Tebow to the Broncos fans, from NFL fans to the Broncos front office. The only people to lose in this whole situation is Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn.
Kyle Orton has been sub-par so far this season as Denver has started the season 1-4. And although he doesn't deserve all the blame, his seven interceptions have definitely hurt his cause as did his dismal performance last week against San Diego.

So Orton definitely gave Fox every reason to make a change at the quarterback position. And although Brady Quinn is second on the depth chart, it makes considerably more sense to put Tebow into the starting position. After all, though the Broncos apparently aren't going to win many games, they still have a job to sell seats, and the fans want to see Tebow.
Tim Tebow is a big winner in this situation, because he finally gets his opportunity to prove himself as a starting quarterback. He is being given the reins of the offense and the chance to lead his team in the NFL. Whether or not he performs well is almost irrelevant, because he was just looking for a shot, especially after all the people that have said he just doesn't fit in the NFL.
The Broncos and NFL fans win, because all of a sudden he is a draw in Denver. Broncos fans finally get the starting quarterback they have been begging for since training camp. They finally have a reason to wear that top-selling jersey in the league last season.
And NFL fans finally have a reason to actually pay attention to Broncos games. Denver is a team out West, so they play a lot of late games. The casual fan will now have a reason to tune in and watch. Whether they cheer for him or against him doesn't matter—they'll still watch.
But the biggest winner out of all of this whole situation, however, is the Denver Broncos front office. First of all, John Elway and John Fox didn't draft Tim Tebow, and they don't believe he is their franchise quarterback. But playing him gives them so many more benefits and makes this a win-win situation for them.
Part of the front office's job is to put people in the stands for their games. Well, starting Tim Tebow will do that.
As noted above, the fans have been calling for him since training camp, so even if they aren't playing well they will probably come out to see him. Let me assure you, they wouldn't be sticking around Mile High come home games in late November and December if Kyle Orton is leading the two-win Broncos.
So, even if they play poorly the rest of the season, people will still come out to see the Tebow Show.
Another win-win for Elway and company is that it doesn't matter one iota if he plays well or not. If he happens to play well and surprises everyone upstairs, then maybe they have someone they can work with. They'll be able to begin molding a system around him, and perhaps he can be a franchise quarterback.
However, if he plays poorly and they continue to lose, then they can say that Tebow at least got a chance. Also if he plays poorly, then it puts them in a great spot in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. And let's be honest—Elway would love to draft the star quarterback from his Alma Mater.
All in all, Tebow gets his opportunity, the fans get to see what they want and the Broncos Front Office gets to sell seats to a terrible product and put themselves in the position to wash their hands of the entire situation in the offseason when they get the chance to draft Andrew Luck. Win-Win for everyone.
