Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: Tony Romo and QBs Who Will Be Point Machines

Adam WellsOct 13, 2011

This year, ESPN is running a series on their website and television networks called "Year of the Quarterback." It is a very accurate description for the NFL this season, and especially fantasy football.

Quarterbacks have been dominating the league this season in a way that we have never seen before. It is not just the usual suspects—Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, et al.—but a number of surprising players who have had little or no success prior to this year.

It is clear that the rule changes are helping offenses put up historic numbers, which is a wonderful thing for fantasy players.

This week, there are a few quarterbacks who have struggled at times this season who will get back on track thanks to favorable matchups.

Here are three signal-callers who will score big for your fantasy teams this weekend.

Tony Romo, Dallas at New England

Regardless of how you feel about him in real life, the fact is that Tony Romo is an excellent fantasy quarterback.

He has been playing with a fractured rib in his last two games, but he had a week off to rest up and will be ready to go against New England.

The Patriots secondary has given up a ton of yards and points this season—couple that with the return of Miles Austin, and Romo is going to have a monster game this week.

Another thing that works in Romo’s favor is the fact that the Cowboys don’t run the ball much. He has thrown the ball at least 33 times in every game this season.

He is going to have to air it out to keep up with Tom Brady and the Patriots offense.

Cam Newton, Carolina at Atlanta

Just five games into his NFL career, Cam Newton has emerged as a must-start quarterback every week. He is throwing for a ton of yards and is cutting down on the turnovers as the season moves along.

He has the luxury of going against a Falcons defense that has been getting torched by opposing quarterbacks this season. They rank 28th against the pass and have given up big yards to the likes of Jay Cutler and Tarvaris Jackson.

The Panthers defense is not stopping anyone, so they are going to have to throw the ball a lot if they want to stay in this game.

Newton should have no problem throwing for more than 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns in this game.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo at New York

Through the first three weeks of the season, Ryan Fitzpatrick was one of the best fantasy quarterbacks. He was averaging nearly 250 yards and three touchdown passes per game.

The last two weeks have been a struggle for Fitzpatrick, but he was going up against teams who have good cornerbacks—Cincinnati and Philadelphia.

This week, Fitzpatrick has the luxury of going up against a Giants defense that has been decimated by injuries and ranks 18th against the pass. Expect him to get back to being the player that he was in Weeks 1-3, with around 275 yards and three touchdown passes.
