Week 6 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Rex Grossman and Shocking Must Start QBs

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

Week 6 of the NFL season will be highlighted by a Sunday afternoon matchup between Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles (1-4) and their division rival Washington Redskins (3-1), who are led by journeyman quarterback Rex Grossman.

Last season's meeting at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland resulted in a 59-28 trouncing of the home team at the hands of a determined Michael Vick.

However, the Eagles enter this season's matchup and are trailing the Redskins by several games in the NFC East. With the most turnovers (15) of any team in the league, they are arguably the softest defense in the NFL.

Washington leads the NFL in sacks, and will have Vick on his back throughout the game unless Juan Castillo trades in the headset for a helmet and secures Philly's offensive line.

I know what you're thinking—get to the point already. Well, here it is.

Rex Grossman, Washington Redskins

Start Rex Grossman on Sunday.

Pick him up off waivers and start him. Disclaimer: do not do this if you own Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees.

Grossman, much like every quarterback this season who has enjoyed a favorable passing day against the Eagles' confused defense, should put up some surprising numbers in a Redskins win.

Although his numbers have only declined since Washington's Week 1 win over the Giants, a division game at home after a bye week is just what the doctor ordered for Grossman.

Look for a 300-yard, two-touchdown performance from Grossman on Sunday against a depressed Philly secondary.

Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) will attempt to bounce back from a hardly-mentioned beatdown at the hands of the 4-1 San Francisco 49ers when they welcome the division rival New Orleans (4-1) on Sunday.

Freeman has had a horrific season thus far, throwing six interceptions to just three touchdowns.

It ends here.

The young Buc will be ready to play on Sunday in front of the Tampa Bay faithful against the recent Super Bowl champions.

Freeman will eat up huge chunks of yardage against New Orleans' shaky road defense and will find a way to score the ball a few times.

Oakland Raiders (3-2) quarterback Jason Campbell has been outshined by the Silver and Black's rushing attack in 2011.

However, Campbell has still been solid for Oakland in five starts this season, throwing six touchdowns to only four interceptions.

In Week 6, Campbell will go up against the Cleveland Browns' fourth-ranked pass defense, but I still like him to put up solid numbers.

The Raiders' running game will have the Rob Ryan-less Browns defense, which is ranked 25th against the run, scrambling for answers and bringing defenders up into the box. This should allow Campbell to produce huge fantasy numbers through the air.
