Tiger Woods Hot Dog Attacker Confuses Stupidity with Courage
How are Tiger Woods and the film Drive starring Ryan Gosling tied together?
By a hot dog and a man named Brandon Kelly.
You may know Kelly as the man who threw a hot dog at Tiger Woods this past Sunday during the Frys.com Open, which drew quite a bit of interest from the media.
Kelly, who was arrested that day, had some time to speak with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat after being released and had quite an interesting "explanation" for his actions.
"I threw the hot dog toward Tiger Woods because I was inspired by the movie 'Drive,'" Kelly said. "As soon as the movie ended, I thought to myself, 'I have to do something courageous and epic. I have to throw a hot dog on the green in front of Tiger.'"
Drive is a film about a stunt driver who also doubles as a getaway driver for felons during the night.
How on earth does this film, which is very well received as evidenced by its 93 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, inspire a man to throw a hot dog at a disgraced former world No. 1 Golfer?
I really could not tell you.
Kelly pretty much did something inane and stupid, and is using the American film industry as a cop-out.
This happens quite often when people are embarrassed or ashamed of their actions and want to deflect responsibility, and I see no difference here.
I fortunately don’t see Drive inspiring a wave of hot dog-throwing maniacs and hope this crazy, albeit somewhat funny incident is an isolated one.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Kelly was the man who threw the dog at the CordeValle golf course and detained him for disturbing the peace.
I hope his fine and community service time was worth the epic and courageous action of throwing a hot dog at a golfer.
