NFL Power Rankings: 10 Teams Most Desperate for a Win in Week 6

Brian RoachOct 13, 2011

It is time to put a new twist on the Week 6 Power Rankings for the NFL that are out.

This coming week is a big week for many NFL teams that are doing bad, such as the Philadelphia Eagles, to start performing and return to their winning ways. Also, it is for the teams that are subpar, such as the St. Louis Rams, to gain some respect by getting wins over tough competition.

The way the team holds itself before or after a bye week is crucial to the success of the team that year. All spots for the postseason are still up for grabs, so get in line for a much-needed win fellas because the season is just one-third of the way over.

10. St. Louis Rams

1 of 10

The St. Louis Rams are coming off a bye in Week 5 and in Week 6 they have the undefeated Green Bay Packers. Sure this is not an easy task to defeat the Packers, but if any team is desperate for a win, it is the Rams.

In order to get a win, the Rams' rush defense needs to improve greatly. They are last in the league against the run and are allowing 179.8 yards per game.

The Rams also need their quarterback, Sam Bradford, to step it up as he is only averaging about 212 yards per game. If the passing game improves, then the Rams could be successful against the Packers.

9. Miami Dolphins

2 of 10

The Miami Dolphins also had a bye in Week 5 and Week 6 looks to be a challenge for them as they face the New York Jets on Monday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. EST. The Dolphins have started the season 0-4.

The Dolphins lost their starting quarterback, Chad Henne, for the season and now they signed Sage Rosenfels. This is a tough scenario for Rosenfels to just hop into, but maybe this is exactly what the Dolphins ordered.

The main aspect the Dolphins need to worry about in Week 6 is holding the Jets' passing game in check. They are 31st in the league in oppenent's passing yards allowed and need to control Mark Sanchez if they hope to be successful.

8. Carolina Panthers

3 of 10

The Carolina Panthers are 1-4 on the young season and with a great quarterback in Cam Newton, are bound to be relevant in the NFC South.

They had a big lead over the New Orleans Saints last week, but could not hold it. In Week 6, they face the Atlanta Falcons, who are only one game ahead of them in the standings and who are also looking for consistency in their offensive attack.

The Panthers need Newton to step it up this week if they expect to make some noise in the wild-card race in the NFC.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars

4 of 10

The only bright spot for the Jaguars has been their running attack that starts with Maurice Jones-Drew. They are 11th in the league in rushing yards per game and Jones-Drew is no pushover as their No. 1 running back.

In Week 5, they lost to a tough Cincinnati Bengals team by the score 30-20. In Week 6, they face an even tougher Pittsburgh Steelers team, but they need a win so their coach keeps his job.

The Jaguars won their only game of the season against the Tennessee Titans 16-14, and maybe a kick in their pants for Week 6 will help them beat the Steelers.

6. New York Giants

5 of 10

Let's just say the New York Giants need to watch turning over the ball in Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are a great team, but Eli Manning should be able to bring the Giants to a victory.

Last Week, the Giants lost 36-25 to the Seattle Seahawks due to turnovers. The Giants could have a better record than their 3-2 mark, but turnovers have hurt them in their losses.

The Giants also need to run the ball better as they are 30th in the NFL in rush yards per game.

5. Atlanta Falcons

6 of 10

The Falcons are 2-3 on the season and they have defeated the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks.

In Week 5, they faced a tough Green Bay Packers squad that stopped their offense and just threw pass their defense.

Week 6 they face the Carolina Panthers at home and if they expect to win they need to keep Cam Newton off the field as much as possible. The Falcons allow 294.2 yards per game in the air and if they limit Newton's passing attempts, then the Falcons will get a much needed win.

The Falcons also need Matt Ryan to return to his form over the past couple of years. He has struggled in most of the games in 2011 and his return to being a star quarterback could propel the Falcons into a win in Week 6.

4. Houston Texans

7 of 10

The Texans got manhandled by the Oakland Raiders in Week 5 and only lost 25-20. Week 6 is their toughest opponent so far as they face the Baltimore Ravens.

The Texans need to get better output from Matt Schaub if they hope to beat the Ravens. Their defense also needs to keep Joe Flacco at bay if they hope to win this game.

The Texans are 3-2 and are in prime position to make it to the playoffs, but a Week 6 win would solidify their chances even more.

3. Indianapolis Colts

8 of 10

The Indianapolis Colts are having trouble in every aspect of the game as they are now 0-5 after their heartbreaking 28-24 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. They had a huge lead in this game, but their defense blew a big lead for the second time this season.

Not only is their defense one of the worst in the NFL, but their offense is just one big question mark. Their starting quarterback at the moment is Curtis Painter who has been pretty good, but he is no Peyton Manning.

If the Colts hope to win in Week 6 over the Cincinnati Bengals, then they need their defense to step it up big time.

2. New York Jets

9 of 10

Rex Ryan is in jeopardy of maybe losing his coaching job if the Jets keep this up. After losing 30-21 to their rival New England Patriots, the Jets have lost three straight and are now 2-3 on the season. They started the season 2-0 and were on top of the world, but now they have fallen on their face and what is to blame?

Their main problem is their consistency on the offensive side of the ball. They rank 21st in the NFL in passing yards per game and 31st in the league in rushing yards per game. This needs to change when they take on the Miami Dolphins, who are 0-4, in Week 6.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

10 of 10

The so-called "Dream Team" is more of a "Scheme Team" the way they have played, starting the 2011 season 1-4. They almost came back to win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5, but Michael Vick threw four interceptions in the 31-24 loss.

In Week 6, they have a division battle with the Washington Redskins who are first in the NFC East with a 3-1 record.

The Eagles have not played well as a unit and they need to be mindful of the Redskins'  running game if they hope to win. They are ranked 30th against the run.

The Eagles have a great offense and if they comes out against the Redskins like everyone knows they can, then the Eagles will be moving in the right direction.
