The 10 Scariest Looking Fighters in the UFC Today

Nick CaronOct 12, 2011

One would assume that a sport where two guys beat one another to bloody pulps would have some pretty scary-looking dudes competing in it...and as the UFC roster proves, that assumption would be right.

While some fighters like to be relaxed and calm when they step into the cage, others prefer to send chills down the spines of their opponents with a menacing snarl that would scare away Godzilla.

Every fighter at this level is scary in one way or another, but these 10 UFC fighters have shown that they are more than just talented in the cage—they could practically double as Halloween costumes.

10. Damacio Page

1 of 10

At 135 pounds, Damacio Page doesn’t exactly fit the profile of someone who would scare his opponents.

But then you take a look at those crazy tattoos and the sometimes deranged look on his face and you remember, oh yeah, this isn’t a guy I’d like to run into in a dark alley.

Though he has struggled in his two most recent fights, submitting to a guillotine choke against both Demetrious Johnson and Brian Bowles, he does have an impressive career that includes 11 finishes in 12 career victories.

9. Paulo Thiago

2 of 10

Has anyone ever seen this guy smile?

As an owner of victories over fellow welterweights including Josh Koscheck, Mike Swick and Jacob Volkmann, Paulo Thiago currently ranks as high as the top-10 in various MMA rankings and his fighting skills don’t even tell the whole story.

Thiago is a soldier of the Special Police Operations Battalion (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais in Portugese), also known as BOPE, which is a special forces unit in the Military Police in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

8. Cheick Kongo

3 of 10

Cheick Kongo looks like product of a genetic experiment to create an army of foot soldiers to take over the world.

This guy is an absolute giant and he doesn’t appear to have an inch of fat anywhere on him. Seriously, he has a 42-pack.

But what’s funny about Kongo is that he looks like such a gentle giant when he’s not fighting. With his glasses on, he looks like he would be some sort of geeky super-scientist in an X-Men movie.

7. Cain Velasquez

4 of 10

In addition to being one of the most physically talented fighters in all of mixed martial arts, Cain Velasquez also has the look of a stone-cold killer.

It could be his dark eyes, his menacing scowl or even his borderline offensive tattoo which reads "Brown Pride," but one look at the UFC heavyweight champion and you know that he is not to be messed with.

He is still undefeated as a professional mixed martial artist and is set to make his first title defense in November when he fights Junior dos Santos as the main event on the very first UFC on FOX fight card.

6. Thiago Silva

5 of 10

He's currently serving a one-year suspension for falsifying his post-fight drug-test after this fight, but the beating that Thiago Silva put on Brandon Vera has to make him one of the scariest men in the whole UFC.

It's not just that he beat Vera down in a terribly brutal fashion for 15 minutes, but it's how he did it that makes him so terrifying. Just take one look at the shape Vera's nose is in after the fight. YUCK!!

Of course, it also helps Silva's ranking that he looks like he may or may not have just committed a string of violent murders "just for the fun of it."

5. Shane Carwin

6 of 10

He's on a two-fight losing streak after having previously been undefeated, but former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin is an absolute monster.

The warrior spirit he displayed during his fight with Junior dos Santos earlier this year was both inspiring as well as it had to be horrifying for fellow fighters who are going to have to go up against this guy in the future.

If that kind of beating didn't put him away, what will?

4. Brock Lesnar

7 of 10

You had to see this one coming, right?

There has never been a physical specimen more intimidating than Brock Lesnar to compete in the sport of mixed martial arts. Unlike some heavyweights who look like they're carrying around jelly in their bellies, Brock Lesnar looks like he was carved out of a granite rock and turned animate by the wonderful Wizard of Oz.

He may not be the UFC heavyweight champion anymore, but Brock Lesnar is certainly a lock as one of the scariest fighters in the company.

3. Alistair Overeem

8 of 10

Lesnar's next opponent will actually be a guy who is arguably even scarier than he is, and that is former Strikeforce and Dream heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem.

A former light heavyweight, Overeem has bulked up all the way to near the 265-pound heavyweight limit and looks to be in amazing shape at that weight. He claims that the body transformation is due to a major diet overhaul which has supposedly included horse meat. Interesting...

Overeem has yet to make his debut in the UFC, but he will be doing so when he fights Lesnar at UFC 141 in late December.

2. Wanderlei Silva

9 of 10

Some might have expected him to be at the top of the list given the epic stare-downs he had when he was in Pride, but the truth is that although he's still one scary-looking individual, the Wanderlei Silva we see today just isn't the same one we saw 10 or even five years ago.

Still, with a nickname like "The Axe Murderer," he had to be on the list.

1. Rampage Jackson

10 of 10

Don't let the fact that he lost to Jon Jones mislead you—Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is unquestionably the scariest-looking fighter in the UFC today.

Rampage is the kind of guy who could be joking around and playing X-box one minute, but completely lose his mind and go on, well, a rampage, the next. He's not the champion anymore and may never be again, but his place on this list is undeniable.

Just look at that stare-down!
