Which New NHL Additions Are Making Big Impacts After Week 1?

Keegan McNallyOct 12, 2011

This offseason saw plenty of moves around the league.

Trades, signings and new draft picks injected different talent into the lineups of all 30 teams.

So the question remains, which offseason moves have paid off after the first week of the season? So far, it looks like four teams have struck gold with some of their acquisitions.

Philadelphia Flyers: Jakub Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Jaromir Jagr

1 of 4

So far it appears as if the Flyers have TOO much talent in their offense. All of their forward lines seem to be able to score and the Flyers have already recorded 10 goals in three games.

So far Voracek, Simmonds and Jagr, all offseason acquisitions, have amassed three goals and six points. Look for their production to only increase as the season goes on.

Jakub Voracek looks to geared up for an impressive season in Philly and it isn't unreasonable to think that with the supporting Flyers cast, he would surpass his career high 50 points. He leads these three with two goals.

Wayne Simmonds is making the headlines more for his preseason interactions than his performance on the Philadelphia roster. But Simmonds has been on fire lately with one goal and one assist after his phenomenal preseason performance.

Jagr continues to be, well, Jagr. He will be able to provide untold experience and chip in offensively every single night for the Flyers. This will prove to be one of the more important free agent signings this offseason.

Washington Capitals: Troy Brouwer and Joel Ward

Although they haven't been contributing in bunches for Washington, Troy Brouwer and Joel Ward have recorded three points together in two games for Washington.

More importantly, they've been filling into their roles as depth grinders with some scoring talent. These types of players are the kinds that make up championship teams.

If Brouwer and Ward can play as well as they have been for the past two games throughout the rest of the season, Washington fans should get very excited about their Stanley Cup chances.

Minnesota Wild: Devin Setoguchi and Dany Heatley

Setoguchi-Koivu-Heatley.

If that isn't a top line then I don't know what one is. Well, the RPG line in Anaheim and a couple others in the league may have something to say about that. But still, this line in Minnesota is for real.

So far Heatley has a goal and two assists while Devin Setoguchi has notched two goals in his new Wild uniform.

Look for this line to continue to produce as the season rolls on.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Vinny Prospal and Jeff Carter

4 of 4

Even though the Blue Jackets have gotten off to a rocky start this season, it hasn't been the fault of their new offseason additions.

Vinny Prospal and Jeff Carter joined long-time Blue Jacket Rick Nash this offseason, formulating a formidable top line in Columbus.

So far, they've been on fire.

Vinny Prospal has four points, Rick Nash has five and Jeff Carter has thrown in three assists in four games. This line appears to be unstoppable after week one.

Now only if they could fix their goaltending and defensive woes.
