NFL Picks Week 6: New England Patriots and Secondaries That Will Get Lit Up

Ryan RudnanskyOct 13, 2011

The New England Patriots may be a formidable team, but their secondary is clearly one of their weak points.

In Week 6, the Patriots face a foe that passes a lot, and racks up a lot of points in the process. And given Tom Brady always seems to get the Patriots off to a good start, it's very likely that the secondary will be tested all game long.

The Patriots aren't the only ones with troubling secondaries, however.

Here are three secondaries that will get lit up in Week 6 of the NFL season.

3. Buffalo Bills

The Bills may be 4-1, but a big part of that is because their offense scores 32.8 points per game, the third-most in the NFL.

The secondary always makes sure to keep games close, however. Through five games, the Bills are allowing 283.4 passing yards per game and have given up 10 passing touchdowns, both marks near the bottom of the league.

The Bills also happen to be facing the New York Giants, whose defense has been struggling but still score 25.4 points per game thanks to the offense. Giants quarterback Eli Manning is coming off a great Week 5 performance, throwing for over 400 yards and three touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks.

2. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have been a mess in several areas thus far, going 2-3 in their first five games of the season.

But their secondary surely isn't helping matters.

Coming into the season, the Atlanta's young secondary was supposed to be emerging into a capable unit, led by cornerbacks Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson.

But the secondary has been highly disappointing thus far, although it certainly hasn't been helped by the Falcons' lacking pass rush. Through five games, the secondary has allowed nine touchdowns and is giving up 294.2 yards per game through the air.

Just so happens the Falcons face Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in Week 6. The Panthers love to throw the ball all over the place.

1. New England Patriots

The Patriots face a double-edged sword in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Sure, Cowboys QB Tony Romo loves to throw the ball to the other team, but he also can be spectacular at times. He may have thrown three interceptions in the second half against the Detroit Lions in Week 5 action, but he still led the Cowboys to 30 points; passing for 331 yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots have given up nine passing touchdowns, an astounding 326.6 passing yards per game, and don't have much of a pass rush to speak of with eight sacks.

Get ready for a shootout in Foxborough.
